Mrs. Herd curled the corner of her mouth into a composed smile. "That's why I'm not afraid. Because I know, in the end, it won't be me who's in trouble."
Ever since being kidnapped, Mrs. Herd had consistently shown no signs of panic or fear. She hadn't begged for mercy either. She remained remarkably calm—eating, drinking, and throwing tantrums whenever she wasn't fed—acting completely unlike a hostage.
