After exiting the cinema, Madison York's eyes were still red. Romney Queens found it somewhat inconceivable. Girls just have a lower threshold for tears, he thought. He didn't remember if Gale Summer cried when she watched this movie, because he never accompanied her to see it.
On the way back, Madison York didn't utter a word. He naturally took her back to the school and then they parted ways at the school entrance.
They had agreed to meet every week, and it was not a problem for him. On Saturdays and Sundays, either he would look for her, or she would look for him, and their time together was just spent chatting casually and wandering aimlessly.
She would tell him about the amusing incidents at school and the minor friction and conflicts among her dormitory roommates, while he listened silently, feeling that she mostly saw him as a mentor and a friend.
Their relationship remained tepid, like a cup of lukewarm water, never too intense, yet not uncomfortable either.
