Chapter 33 - Chapter 33 : 'Smith Blacksmith'

In the narrow alleyway, Alex found himself standing before a dilapidated old building that seemed to have gone unrepaired for many years. The surroundings were equally sparse, with few other shops in sight. The only prominent signboard in the vicinity read "Smith Blacksmith."

It was clear that the shop he was looking for was far from a flashy establishment. This hidden gem might not have drawn much attention from the general public, but Alex knew better.

The reputation of this blacksmith shop would grow significantly in the later years of his previous life, and it was the perfect place to acquire high-quality gear and equipment.

With a sense of anticipation, Alex pushed open the creaking door of the blacksmith shop and stepped inside, ready to explore the treasures that lay within and to establish a connection with its owner.

"Hello, how can I assist you?" The individual appears to be a young girl, possibly in her mid-teens, dressed in worn and tattered clothing.

"Hello," Alex greeted the young girl with a warm smile. "I'm looking for some high-quality gear and equipment. I've heard that this place is the best for that."

The girl looked at him with a mixture of curiosity and surprise, as if she hadn't expected a customer like Alex to walk through the door.

She had never anticipated a customer today, and the shop's ownership lay with her grandfather, who was unavailable for now.

However, for the past three months, the shop had stood void of customers. Before the apocalypse, their business had thrived, but in its wake, their financial woes had grown considerably.

Within their humble establishment, one could only find epic-grade items. Not because they lacked the skill to craft higher-ranked equipment or weapons, but because they lacked the necessary blueprints.

The blueprints for crafting higher-tier equipment were indeed available, but they came at a steep cost. Interestingly, not all of them could be acquired with mere monetary transactions.

While one could craft ordinary equipment, they proved ineffective against the formidable high-tier monsters that roamed the post-apocalyptic world.

To confront these formidable foes, specialized equipment was a necessity. Obtaining such gear was a two-fold challenge.

The first route involved venturing into dungeons, where the coveted blueprints might be found as loot, dropping after the defeat of powerful monsters or any equipment dropped after slaying the monster.

This method was the preferred choice for most hunters, as it offered a challenging yet potentially rewarding path.

The second option was to purchase the equipment directly which was made from dwarves or import it from the Dwarves' world, but this came at an exorbitant price.

It was a luxury only a few could afford, and even then, it wasn't the favored choice among low-rank hunters due to its prohibitive cost.

Thus, most hunters opted to brave the dungeons, battling monsters and seeking out elusive blueprints in their quest for the specialized gear required to stand a chance against the high-tier threats lurking in the world.

Their shop existed in isolation, without any significant backing or connections, making it an overlooked gem nestled in the city's core.

Debts were steadily accumulating with each passing day, and their lives had plummeted to an all-time low. Despite her grandfather's four decades of blacksmithing experience, it wasn't that he wasn't offered jobs post-apocalypse; he simply refused to work for others and sacrifice his independence.

The shop, once a thriving hub of craftsmanship, now stood as a symbol of their struggles. The scarcity of customers weighed heavily on their shoulders, but they remained resilient, hoping for a change in fortunes.

As they stood there, watching the potential customer browse their meager offerings, a glimmer of hope sparked within them – perhaps this could be the turning point they desperately needed to revive their business and secure a brighter future.

"Well, you heard right," she replied with a grin. "We've got some of the finest gear you'll not find anywhere. What kind of equipment are you looking for?"

As Alex began to browse the selection, he couldn't help but appreciate the craftsmanship of the items on display. Despite the modest appearance of the shop, it was clear that the quality of their products was top-notch. This was exactly what he was looking for to prepare himself for his upcoming challenges as a hunter.

"Could you kindly inform me about the highest caliber of equipment currently on offer in this establishment before we proceed any further?" The question flowed smoothly from Alex's lips, concealing a deliberate untruth.

He possessed intimate knowledge that the shop's current inventory was limited to epic-grade items. How did he come by this information? Well, Alex harbored an obsession for all things related to equipment and weaponry in his previous life.

When he learned about Mr. Smith, the illustrious owner of Smith Blacksmith, he delved deep into the blacksmith's life story for inspiration.

What he uncovered left him profoundly astonished. In a previous chapter of Mr. Smith's life, he had been a destitute soul, struggling in obscurity. Yet, through a relentless commitment to his craft and an unwavering work ethic, Mr. Smith had ascended to the zenith of his profession, achieving fame and acclaim.

Alex's fascination with the world of blacksmithing and weaponry had driven him to research not only Mr. Smith's accomplishments but also the intricate details of the shop's offerings.

His heart swelled with admiration for the blacksmith's remarkable journey from rags to riches, which echoed the very essence of perseverance and dedication.

As he stood there, inquiring about the shop's wares, he couldn't help but admire Mr. Smith's indomitable spirit that had propelled him to become the renowned blacksmith he was today.

The young girl appeared somewhat hesitant, but she let out a soft sigh and spoke, "Um, sir, currently, all we have are epic-grade items, but they are of the highest quality. You won't find equipment like this anywhere else, and if you make a purchase from our shop, we'll offer you a generous 40% discount."

It was evident that their shop was struggling to make sales, but for Alex, this was an opportunity too good to pass up. When he heard about the discount, a mischievous grin spread across his face.

'Hehehe,' Alex couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. He had come here with the intention of buying, and now he was getting an extra discount to sweeten the deal. 'Ahh, today is certainly my lucky day,' he thought to himself, feeling like fate had smiled upon him.
