"It appears that you're able to phase through things," Yellum observed, her tone calm despite the growing hostility between them. "It's no wonder you managed to avoid all of those attacks, and even took the other one by surprise. However…" Her eyes narrowed slightly. "If you want to attack your opponent, then you can't phase through your sword, can you?"
Her words were calculated, testing Beatrix's limits.
It wasn't entirely true, of course. And Beatrix was quick to prove it.
Without a word, she shifted her stance. The faint shimmer around her weapon deepened as she adjusted her energy. Her translucent blue sword phased partially out of reality, sliding through the air with ghostly precision. She moved to strike, her blade slipping through space toward Yellum's chest.
But before Beatrix could land her blow, Yellum fired.
Dozens of golden beams erupted from her other hand, blazing toward Beatrix's midsection. The light was so blinding it cut through the air like molten glass.
