Chapter 147 - chapter-146

"You can't kill what's already dead..." Smiling chillingly, the follower of Jashin caused the stump where his right arm had been to splatter blood onto the ground and slowly began to draw with his feet.

"How can he be alive?" Kimi asked in dismay. She could clearly see the wound that ran through the man's head. In all these years of studying medical ninjutsu and the human body, she never expected that someone with a wound that went right through their brain could stand, talk, and even act as if nothing was wrong. Fearfully, the girl swallowed hard. "He's a monster..."

Naruto, who was standing next to his partner, couldn't help but agree with her, but looking down, he saw that his enemy had drawn the same symbol as the one on his necklace. What was that for? Whatever it was, he couldn't let him finish.

"Teman…" With a dark smile, Hidan took the weapon he had used to stab the Jounin. Using his tongue, he drank the blood that remained on the end. "Because today you will be judged by a superior being… Jashin-sama!" With that loud shout, his skin turned black, and white marks formed, resembling bones.

"You talk too much." Forming a hand seal, Naruto took a deep breath and then blew hundreds of air bullets that went toward the silver-haired boy, who only extended his arms to receive the attack.

Everything happened in an instant. When the attack hit its target, the sound of blows and the splatter of blood could be heard.

"..." The three children had to turn around to see that their sensei was on his knees with a shocked look. He slowly lowered his gaze to see bloodstains on his suit and, without thinking, tore his vest open. Stunned, he saw holes in his chest that were letting blood out.

None of the Leaf shinobi could believe what they were seeing; those wounds were obviously from a wind attack, which matched the one that one of them had just used.

"Sensei!" Naruto managed to catch his sensei before he fell, and looking at his partner, she set to work healing the veteran, who was breathing with difficulty.

"Hahaha! Thanks for that, brat! You have no idea how good that felt!" The dust surrounding Hidan gradually settled, revealing the Yugakure shinobi without a single scratch. Smiling, he enjoyed seeing the brats' incredulous looks. "Oh? Are you confused? Well, since I'm a generous person, I'll explain what's going on..." With the metal rod in his right hand, he used it to stab himself in the right shoulder.

"Ahhhhhhhh!" Tenko screamed in agony, having a puncture wound in her right shoulder, causing blood to splatter onto the kunoichi who was trying her best to close the wounds.

"What do you think of my trick?! Hey!" Pulling the stake from his shoulder, Hidan now stabbed himself in the stomach.

"Ahggg!" The veteran vomited blood as the wound appeared in his stomach.

"Come on! I won't let my first sacrifice to Jashin-sama be so quick! Scream!" With brutality, Hidan stabbed himself repeatedly in the stomach, each thrust only causing screams of agony from the old Hamura, who was bleeding out.

"Stop! Please stop!" Kimi tried her best to stop the bleeding from the serious wounds, but she couldn't heal them any faster than her sensei was being hurt. She watched in horror as her teacher writhed in pain, unable to do anything to stop it.

"Rot in hell, bitch!" Raising his remaining arm, Hidan this time aimed for his heart. However, before he could do so, his arm was pierced by the sword of the blond brat, who was now on top of him.

"Takashi! The seal! Destroy the seal!" Naruto's screams were silenced when the silver-haired boy, dropping the stake, took it in his mouth and stabbed the child in the stomach, but even so, he refused to let go.

"Earth Release!" With his hands against the ground, the dark-skinned chunin caused an earthquake that destroyed the ground where Hidan was standing. Hidan watched in fury as his ritual was interrupted.

"You!" Hidan's rage focused on Naruto, who, breaking free from his grip, kicked the silver-haired man in the face, knocking him down. The Uzumaki, stumbling backward, ignored the spear that pierced his stomach. From his pockets, he pulled out spheres and hurled them at the ground, creating a massive cloud of smoke that blinded Hidan. After a few minutes, the smoke finally cleared, leaving only the silver-haired man on the scene.

"Do you really think you can leave?! You can't escape me!" The shouts of the Jashin follower echoed throughout the forest.

.....

Tenko was being carried by Naruto, who, along with his companions, was retreating and putting distance between themselves and their enemy. Jumping between the trees, they reached a clearing, where they stopped.

"..." With an empty look, the Jounin was left on the ground, leaning against a rock. Breathing slowly, the gray-haired man raised his gaze to look at his students.

"I can stop the bleeding... I can help you," Kimi said in a trembling voice, wanting to approach and tend to her sensei's wounds, but he stopped her.

"No..." With a heavy sigh, Hamura simply raised his gaze to the sky. Even with blood dripping from his mouth and his stomach full of wounds, the shinobi remained calm. "They must reach Konoha... they must return," he grunted, feeling the difficulty of simply speaking.

"Naruto and I can carry you, sensei. We won't leave you here. You have to come with us." This time, it was Takashi's turn to try to persuade his teacher. "Come on, old man, you still have to keep going, so get your old butt up!" growled the dark-haired boy with glassy eyes. "Tell him, Naruto! Tell him he'll be okay!" The teenager tried to reach his teacher and carry him, but was stopped by his group captain.

"..." Shaking his head, Naruto knelt beside his master, whose breathing was becoming slower and weaker.

"Sensei..." Kimi was the first to burst into tears as she firmly held the hand of her teacher, the one who had trained her for years to become the person she was now.

"Stop acting like this is it!" Takashi refused to believe this was the end of his master. "You went through two wars, you damned old man! You won't die here! I won't leave you!" Naruto and Kimi could see the dark-haired boy's eyes fill with tears. As he was about to push his companions aside to pick up his master and carry him on his back if necessary, he stopped when he heard the old man's dry laugh.

"Takashi... you're a good boy," the veteran smiled, looking at his student. "You remind me of my son... a loudmouthed brat who believes that at the end of the day everything will end like in a fairy tale, who always wants to help others... never change, Takashi." Smiling, the shinobi raised his trembling hand to caress the teenager's face.

"..." Nodding his head, Takashi simply fell to his knees before his master.

"I've lived my life, brats... a long life." With a long sigh, Hamura felt himself growing weaker. "I had a wife... I had a son... and they're both dead." The three teenagers simply stood before their master, listening to what would possibly be his last words. "And I can tell you that I haven't thought a single day, not a day, not a day, about when my death will come and I'll finally be reunited with them... so stop being such damn crybabies and let this old man die." Even in his current state, the old shinobi didn't change in the slightest. Looking one last time at his three apprentices, Hamura smiled weakly. "I'm... proud... of you..." With a final sigh, the veteran closed his eyes, never to open them again.

"Sensei!" Takashi and Kimi cried out in anguish, their hearts heavy with grief as they wept and mourned their teacher's death. Naruto, head bowed, pulled a scroll from his pocket and, opening it, caused his teacher's body to vanish in a puff of smoke.

"We must go..." was the weak whisper of the Uzumaki, who carefully put away the scroll. His master's body held too many secrets to end up in the hands of other villages. His two companions simply stood up in silence.

"Go where, you brats?" The members of Team Four froze upon hearing that question. On a tree branch stood Hidan, his scythe slung over his shoulder. Seeing the brats' hateful glares, he smiled, and noticing the bloodstain on the ground, his smile widened. "Oh? It seems my first sacrifice was a success. You can rest easy; your deaths were not in vain. It was to quench the thirst of the great Jashin-sama! And you're next!"

"You sick bastard! I'm going to kill you!" With a fire of vengeful fury in his eyes, Takashi was about to attack, but he was stopped by his team captain, who was at the head of the group.

"We're no match for him. His strength and speed far surpass those of an ordinary Jounin..." With utmost seriousness, Naruto kept his gaze fixed on his master's killer. "Our only option is to leave and seek backup..."

"Leave that bastard like that! He killed our sensei! You're suggesting we just run away like cowards!"

"If..." Takashi's fury reached its limit upon hearing the simple answer from his supposed team captain.

"How can you say that?" the dark-haired boy demanded angrily, grabbing his friend by the collar of his Jounin vest and staring into his eyes. "He killed him!" he shouted furiously, pointing at Hidan, who was just smirking at the brats' conflict. "You're trash..." His last words were laced with hatred and rage at his companion's nonchalant attitude. "Didn't Sensei's death make you feel anything? Nothing at all?" the teenager asked, his voice heavy with pain, tightening his grip on the younger blond's vest. The blond remained motionless, a somber look in his eyes. "He was our teacher for two years, damn it! Say something, Naruto! At least say that Sensei meant something to you!"
