Then, Gon began telling stories about the past six months.
Mito, with her short, orange-red hair, listened with great interest.
But the moment the name "Ging" was mentioned, her expression darkened.
She had no fond feelings for him.
That was clear from the fact that she had risked staying single for life just to take custody of Gon away from him.
Ging brought Gon back to Whale Island back then, hoping his great-grandmother would take care of him.
But Mito, still young at the time, took full responsibility for raising Gon herself. She was furious at Ging and told him never to come back.
She had only said it out of anger—after all, she couldn't actually stop father and son from seeing each other. But to her surprise, Ging really never returned.
This made Mito even more upset.
She couldn't imagine what Gon would have become if Ging had been the one to raise him.
As the years passed, she poured almost all of her love into Gon, completely ignoring any suitors who pursued her.
Mito never married, nor did she intend to.
But in the end, even though she had raised Gon far from Ging's influence, Gon still chose to follow in his father's footsteps.
Mito could only sigh at fate.
Though she felt uneasy whenever she talked about Ging with Gon, she couldn't help but soften in the end. She gave Gon a box that Ging had left behind.
Only then did Gon realize that clues about his father had been sitting just a few meters away from his bedroom this whole time.
Still, he wasn't angry at Aunt Mito for keeping it from him.
He understood her—he had long since seen her as his mother.
Aunt Mito was only afraid that if Gon learned about Ging, it would end up hurting him.
After all, she had always told him that his parents had died in an accident, not that they had abandoned him.
Gon then infused the box with Nen, breaking the seal and revealing the three things Ging had left behind—a ring, a memory card, and a cassette tape.
Kurapika immediately recognized the ring and the memory card as the "entry tickets" to Greed Island.
Only after hearing Kurapika's explanation did Gon finally understand what Germain's words had meant back then.
"He said, 'Gon, if you really want to see your incompetent father, come find me at a certain place.'"
"If you want to know where 'that place' is, you first need to learn Nen and then find a way to get to a place called 'Greed Island.'"
"Find it yourself. Ging should have left you enough clues."
As it turned out, Ging had indeed left clues pointing to Greed Island.
Gon was excited. Only after Killua reminded him did he remember to listen to the tape.
For the first time, Gon heard his father's voice from the recorder.
What Ging said was almost the same as what Germain had relayed—telling Gon to find him and catch him.
Then, Ging mentioned Gon's mother. But the moment he did, Gon immediately pressed the stop button on the recorder.
To him, knowing who his biological mother was didn't matter. Aunt Mito was his real mother.
Soon after, the tape self-destructed under the influence of Nen. Now, only Ging and a handful of people knew the truth about Gon's mother.
Kurapika and Killua felt a little regretful watching the destroyed tape, but Gon himself was satisfied.
They stayed on Whale Island for nearly a month.
Gon took Kurapika and Killua around the island, showing them his childhood home and even meeting some of his childhood friends.
Kurapika could tell that one of Gon's childhood friends—a girl with orange twin-tails—seemed to have feelings for him.
However, neither Gon nor Killua noticed.
Since the orange-haired girl was also quite shy, Kurapika decided not to say anything.
Nearly a month later, they left Whale Island, preparing to find a way into Greed Island.
And when it came to how to enter, Kurapika was the one who knew best.
Kurapika looked at Gon and Killua's eager expressions, and he murmured to himself.
I could go directly, but there's a high chance that Greed Island won't allow Gon and Killua to pass.
Razor will definitely do his duty and chase them away, even though one is Gon's son and the other is a teacher's protégé.
In that case, we'll have to take the "normal" route.
After thinking through the situation, Kurapika pointed to the ring and card that Gon had received from Ging and said, "The key is these."
"Gon already has a ring and a card, I have a ring, so what we need now is just a special Greed Island game console and Killua's ring."
Gon and Killua exchanged a look, then asked in confusion, "Where do we get the rest of the stuff?"
Kurapika smiled and said, "I know a place that has both the Greed Island game console and extra rings."
"They're in a mansion by a lake, located in a forested area on the Yorbian Continent. The teacher took me there before, and it should still be managed by someone."
Gon and Killua immediately agreed to go.
This was the reason they three traveled together that day, in mid-June, to the front gate of the mansion that Bisky had bought back then.
After returning from the Kakin Empire, Bisky and Kurapika had indeed left the Greed Island game console and several spare rings there.
This mansion was even one of the teleportation points directly connected to Greed Island on the Yorbian Continent.
Now, the people staying in the mansion, responsible for hosting them, were of course Greed Island staff.
Not long after Kurapika, Gon, and Killua entered the Heavens Arena, Greed Island had sent people here to wait for them.
Even though it wasn't explicitly mentioned, Germain and Dwun had already guessed what Kurapika, Gon, and Killua's next move would be.
And now, just as they expected, it was happening.
