"If you're not happy, wait until later, after we've had dinner and I'm back at the hotel, then give me a call, and I'll cheer you up." Jane Sampson's voice was so gentle it was almost dripping with affection.
Having such a precious daughter-in-law, even the few traces of gloom in James Black's heart dissipated in her gentle, soothing words.
"How do you plan to cheer me up?" James was quite interested in hearing how Jane planned to cheer him up over the phone.
"I'm here, you're there, over the phone, I can't kiss you or hold you, I can only sing a song for you." Jane said this and then laughed herself.
"Over the mountain, across the sea, there's a little Jane?" Jane had sung this song in front of James before, so he remembered Jane's adapted lyrics clearly.
"Uh..." Jane scratched her head with the hand not holding the mobile phone.
James's guess was right.
This was indeed her plan.
