James Black was thoroughly left out in the cold by Jane Sampson.
When she was asked to speak up, she indeed spoke up.
So, was she appeased? Or was she still not appeased?
James Black snorted and muttered, "Such a big temper."
James Black raised his hand to knock on the door, adding, "I'll buy you another piece of cake."
Inside, Jane Sampson was splashing water around, and her eyes lit up. Fearing that James Black might go back on his word, she quickly replied, "Okay! You must keep your word, no lying. If you lie, I'll ignore you forever."
"I've never lied to you," James Black responded in a deep voice, then walked away with a smile.
Finally, she was appeased.
Jane Sampson soaked in the bath room for ten minutes, then changed into pajamas and came out. The hot water made her all flushed, but it did ease her leg soreness quite a bit.
James Black didn't return to the study; he waited in the bedroom for her to come out.
