But facing the daughter in the sickbed, Mother Carter couldn't vent any of her anger.
Father Carter clenched his fists, then released them, over and over again.
Only after a while did he look at Joseph Shaw and ask, "Didn't you chase after her? Why didn't you keep an eye on her?"
"I'm sorry, Dad." Joseph Shaw's voice was somewhat hoarse as he apologized, "She wouldn't let me follow her. I originally thought of giving her some space to calm down, allowing her a moment to accept this reality on her own, thinking she would come home. But I didn't expect her to not even come home, instead heading straight to the hotel, and I certainly didn't expect her to get so upset."
As Joseph Shaw said this, his gaze gently fell back on Jillian Carter.
Father Carter only heard him murmur softly, filled with self-reproach.
"Why didn't I keep an eye on her? After I caught up with her, I shouldn't have let her go. Even if she got angry, I should have personally brought her back home."
