The ominous threat came before day's end.
Erected high above the community's borders was a robe, which fluttered helplessly against the light breeze. The act unseen by any witnesses, the garment was nailed against two wooden poles. With the wind brushing against the sleeves; And the dark splotches of dried blood which marred and clung to the fabric– The haunting scene looked akin to someone being crucified on a cross.
It was the children who saw it first.
Running fearlessly into the fields, a small group of urchins were giving chase to one another in a game of tag. But as they wandered further into the plain's golden strands, one of the youngsters came to a screeching halt, and she nearly stumbled over in shock.
The daunting sight had taken her by surprise!
What is that…? Is that a new scarecrow…?!

The melody of their laughter soon disappeared, as the children– One by one, began to realize the horrid scene before them.
