The five mentally ill men completely ignored Brandon Lucas and the group around him.
With chaotic hands and feet, they lifted the unconscious Michelle Carter, struck down by Brandon Lucas, and moved her towards the bed.
The police were right there, and naturally couldn't just watch them "commit a crime." They immediately stepped up to restrain the five men, wrapped Michelle Carter in a bedsheet, and rescued her.
