Cyan stood stoically at the edge of the rooftop unaffected by the chance of a drop from such a height . He cut a sorry figure with his back bent over and his eyes cast at the abyss below. Fluttering about was his long overcoat in the evening breeze.
I joined him and peered below. My heart skipped a beat it seemed it was still hard to get over one's primal fears but beyond this small hurdle lay a treasure so great it made everything seem worthwhile. I withdrew my gaze and now fixated it on my phone which I had taken out of my pocket. Choosing an outro took precedence over everything else at that point.
The time was now upon us, no it was upon me the individuality and equality in dying was a thing to behold; there beside me lay the son of a prominent politician; someone blessed from birth with power, riches and the looks.
I felt a gentle caress against my arm; he was nudging me to hold his hand in mine; perhaps he was scared of what lay ahead; doubting whether this was the correct decision. His expression betrayed his burdened psyche. Normally I wouldn't have thought of it but with culmination of all these emotions I took his hands; my last service to humanity I thought, I would show him the way.
The wind pushed from the back as we leapt into the night I glanced and beside me was the most beautiful smile I had ever seen; pressuring me to return it in good measure. We were floating in freedom and elation happy to be freed from pain and pleasure seeking true rest; true joy. But we weren't floating we were falling, fast and before I knew it it was over.
I can't remember any sensation prior to my death it is a fuzzy feeling ;a fever dream. But afterwards I lay in the dark surrounded by dark fog so thick I couldn't see my hand. Slowly I was losing my senses; my sight, my sense of touch, all of it and slowly my thought too. It was like falling asleep, true sleep ; the second best feeling I have ever experienced. It was like I was melting into the shadows. I had resigned myself to my fate and was elated when the sound of a drop of water hitting a hard surface reverberated in the nothingness. Slowly my senses began to return to me and the fog began swirling it was like being flushed down the sink.
I opened my eyes and the sudden influx of light made me raise my hand to shield my eyes. Pangs of pain echoed in my body; originating from my chest and lower back. Despite the agony my body was undergoing the scenery blew me away and left flabbergasted. It was the most beautiful surroundings I had ever lay my eyes on.
From my vantage view on what was a small hill I saw valleys laden with water as clear as can be crisscrossing high mountain peaks that were more so jugged masses of rock jutting from the ground. On these peaks lay what resembled sakura trees in full bloom interspersed with beautiful orchid like flowers between. Their flowers floated in the wind which played a beautiful tune as it whistled between the tree leaves. It was like listening to an Grammy worthy flute performance; so touching tears reluctantly flowed. Up closer were trees larger than anything I had ever seen. At their bases they were at least 15 metres across and they grew as tall as you could see but those were the normal ones there were even bigger ones. Words cannot describe how ethereal the place was; it was a fantasy world; with small fairies flying about lazily. My long standing apathy melted away in the warmth and beauty of his environment. I had a yearning to look and explore this wonderful world.
But alas it wasn't to be as I felt my body being lifted by the wind; whisked away and now up in the sky I could see this ethereal garden was one that floated in the sky. I was now being violently dragged through the air and finally dropped somewhere on another hill. The scenery here wasn't anything to be scoffed at either. A river as wide as a small lake split the land into two with trees (still large ones) filled one side while the other side held a throne made of earth the size of a skyscraper. Though the vegetation there was much more scanty.
I looked up to where I had come from and far above was the city in the sky; I had to go back. My words are lacking for they could never portray an accurate depiction of what beauty the place held; it was the den of gods. So many questions were forming in my mind but I had to survive first.
Behind me on the horizon I saw a town.
