I had Esme's diary and her letter in my hands. I walked to a quiet, secluded area to read her words for the first time.
Esme's Letter:
Liam, if you're reading this, it means I'm no longer in this world.
I just want you to know… the three months we spent together were bittersweet. I earned your respect—and at first, your cold distance. You didn't trust me right away, but slowly, that changed.
I never thought I'd fall in love with you, Liam. But I did. And I'm grateful you loved me back.
Our time together… that was the greatest gift you gave me. Your rare smiles—when they did come—were beautiful. Thank you for showing me your softer side, for loving me with your whole heart.
I don't blame you for hiding the truth about my illness. I know you asked Lilac and Priest Daniel to find a cure. You kept the truth from me because you were scared it would break me. Priest Daniel told me everything, and I understand why you stayed silent.
