Esme – POV
I sat on the couch in Liam's office, waiting for Ethan to arrive—and Edward. Just thinking his name made me uncomfortable. He had this cold, calculating presence. This wasn't the Edward I remembered. The one who smiled, who spoke with a calm, serene air.
Liam was focused on some paperwork, completely absorbed. He looked even more handsome when he concentrated.
"Liam," I called softly. He looked up at me.
"Can you tell me what happened with Lady Margaret? How did you—"
"Kill her," he finished for me.
I nodded.
"I'm part dragon, part mage. My bloodline gives me the power to kill anyone—even other mages," Liam said, watching me carefully. He stepped away from his desk and joined me on the couch, taking my hand gently in his.
He held my gaze, still searching for something in my eyes.
"What is it, Liam?" I asked.
"You're calm," he replied. "When I killed your father and your half-sister, you looked at me the way everyone else does—as a tyrant."
