Sabrina Johnson didn't look up. Staring at her toes, she nodded gently, the very picture of a docile and sensible girl. Pauline Briggs felt a momentary daze, as if her adopted daughter hadn't changed at all, still the same girl who had always pleased her.
"Sabrina, darling, call Sienna down for lunch," Pauline Briggs sighed.
"Okay." Sabrina Johnson agreed obediently and then went upstairs to call Sienna Johnson.
Pauline Briggs continued to prepare lunch meticulously, hoping Sienna Johnson would enjoy the meal and become more agreeable. She hoped Sienna would listen to her advice and abandon her crazy idea.
