"Will they really take me away?" Curly asked worriedly.
"Yes." This was something Sienna Johnson could be sure of.
Curly hugged her mother's neck tightly, making Sienna feel touched as she said, "Then, Mom, you have to hide me well, so they won't take me away."
Sienna's eyes grew misty. "Doesn't Curly want to live with Daddy?"
"But, Mommy will be sad and cry without Curly."
"Curly!" Sienna choked out.
"Don't worry, even if he comes and takes me away, I'll come back to you myself!" Curly gently patted her mother's back, comforting Sienna, whose eyes filled with glistening tears.
"Curly, Mommy's good girl."
"Sienna, Curly's good Mommy!"
...
"Don't cry. If you don't believe me, we can make a pinky promise." Her little finger hooked Sienna's, and she said very seriously, "I won't abandon you..."
Sienna smiled through her tears, mimicking Curly's usual playful way of getting her way, "Yes, if you abandon me, I'll cry for you to see."
