I gritted my teeth as our forces struggled against the newest wave of abysmals attacking Kuroriku's capital.
Amaya and Kazuo's remaining mana cannons had already buckled under the relentless weight of the siege, leaving our vanguard exposed to the blackened tide. Every time we managed to carve through a cluster of the lesser fiends, another cluster crawled over the shattered masonry, their hollow eyes burning with abyssal malice.
"Reform the line!" I bellowed over the deafening din of clashing steel and screeching beasts, swinging my scimitar in a fierce arc that severed a charging crawler at the torso. Black ichor hissed against the polished stone, eating away at the pavement. "Do not let them breach the barrier the Taeyang built to contain them within the city limits!"
But the enemy all around us wasn't the only issue. The castle was still falling from the sky. Had Queen Amelia perished?
