Eizan PoV:
My hands gripped my spear tight as I flew toward mother after catching myself from the fall. Her golden hair danced in the wind and her green eyes seemed to pierce my soul.
I recalled her kind face from my childhood. That warm smile she gave me every morning. But now there was nothing but emptiness in her eyes. Not a single emotion. It was as if the light had been extinguished from her.
That realization hurt more than any wound I had received in this battle. But I couldn't show her my pain. If I hesitated, I would be done for.
"Mother," I began. "Fight back against the abyss that controls you. Remember who you were."
She charged at me with the electricity sword. I deflected it with the tip of my spear, feeling the surge of mana from her.
But still, her expression remained unchanging.
"Remember the pomegranates? You used to take me to the grove and crack open one for me."
Her eyes twitched. She stopped attacking and stood still. "Pomegranates..."
