We descended the spiral staircase slowly, the air getting colder. Thankfully, the walls were lined with candles that lit our path. Leonardo really did keep up the maintenance of this place. Wonder if he would make an analogy about the candles if he were here. Something like 'these candles represent the light of faith' or something like that.
At the end of the stairs was a statue of the founders. Buried under it was said to be a vault containing the bodies of the first king and queen.
Palatine bowed his head at his parents' alleged graved. "No matter the path they took, they still did great things."
I thought about my own parents. They had done great things, but also terrible things. They had loved me, but I had also suffered the consequences of their decisions. I couldn't hate them, but I couldn't forger my ordeal either.
