She looked hurt. "I'm not going to harm you. I would never. You're... you're my friend."
I turned away, my heart aching. "Some friend. Plotting against me, my church, my home."
"I'm not plotting against you. I'm just doing what I think is best for our kingdom."
"You mean what is best for him," I said, my voice full of bitterness. "Setsugen is simply repeating Queen Serena's mistakes. After he reunifies Kuroriku, he will look outward. He'll try to expand his domain. And it will lead to more wars, more bloodshed. And you will be at the forefront of it all, just like Amelia's father was for his wife. The same fate will await you and your family. Your allies will turn on you. Your children will suffer, forced to flee. Should the church survive his rule, it will once more provide sanctuary for those in need."
