After Artemia left with her twins and Eiko followed after them, I glanced down at Sofia and sighed. I wanted to tell her what she did was wrong, but I also didn't wish to embarrass her in front of the other kids. She was just two.
"Sofi, don't release other kids' butterflies like that. You're lucky Osamu didn't have a full-blown meltdown."
She frowned. "What's a meltdown."
Seb hummed. "It's when stuff feel like too much!"
I nodded. "It's like when Seb's brick towers get too big to hold up and they crash."
"Makes a big boom!" Seb said, chuckling. "But, less fun..."
Sofia tilted her head, trying to process. "So, if I let go of the butterflies, it made Osamu feel like a big tower that fell?"
"Exactly!" I said, pleased with her understanding. "When you let the butterflies go, it surprised him, and sometimes surprises can make people feel overwhelmed."
Her eyes widened. "Like when I surprise Mommy with my drawings and she smiles?"
