Chapter 175 - Chapter 171

Yuichi sat cross-legged in the courtyard of Urahara's mansion, staring at the slow spiral of dust caught in a sunbeam. A pale breeze shifted the leaves. The world around him was still — far too still.

The gates hadn't opened in four days.

"Until the matter is settled," Urahara said.

He rolled his shoulder, feeling the old pain coil through his right arm. It felt heavier now — not from injury, but from what Yuichi had done to it.

Across the courtyard, Mei was performing kata with casual grace, moving through forms like a stream slipping around a stone. She didn't speak much lately, and neither did he. They had sparred every morning, and every night, but neither one said what they were really thinking:

They had survived the human world fiasco caused by Mayuri but just barely.

And if that had been any worse… they would've died.

The scars of those times still remained in their minds pushing them to grow stronger.

Yuichi flexed his hand and winced. His new technique if it could even be called that was eating him alive in slow, rhythmic waves.

He had been sitting in the bathhouse, steam coiling around him, Mei asleep in the next room.

That's when it struck him not an epiphany, but a crack in the foundation.

His Reishi Body Tempering…

His Reiryoku-Reishi Conversion…

His Reiryoku Control Training Regimen…

All of them were too slow right now. The current output was negligent now. As time went on the further behind his body lagged.

His spiritual growth couldn't keep up with the battles he was being thrust into. He needed something self-sustaining, something that grew as it trained him. A ritual that was both the forge and the flame.

He sketched notes in steam. Reiryoku fluctuation through spiritual tension. Muscle memory for energy. Compression through battle rhythm. Adaptive flow. He dismantled and tried to combine the three techniques.

Every formula failed. Then failed again.

Until finally… something didn't.

Sōzō no Zanshin (創造の残心 – Residual Mind of Creation)

Zanshin (残心) refered to the lingering awareness, composure, and presence after an action, especially in the case of swordsmanship and meditation.

Sōzō (創造) meant "creation," evoking spiritual reshaping, inner transformation, and spiritual authorship.

Together, the name implied that Yuichi was not just training he was rewriting the shape of his soul, and what remains after pain, after transformation, after battle… is power.

A body that learns as it breaks.

A soul that grows every time it reforms.

Beneath his robes, Yuichi's left arm pulsed with heat and excruciating pain due to the deep restructuring. His nerves were torn apart and reknit, bones hollowed and filled with spiritual compound matter. He'd already reconverted his right arm using this system. The pain was worse now than before but the results were purer and stronger.

He focused his breathing, compressing his reiryoku, then letting it expand.

Compress. Expand. Shrink. Swell.

His spiritual energy rippled beneath his skin like a heartbeat.

The air shimmered slightly around him as reishi from the courtyard stones bled toward him. He wove it in, grafting it onto his own energy, then forced it down into muscle, into tendon, into bone.

He didn't grunt. Didn't wince.

On the outside, he looked perfectly still.

To Mei, to Urahara, to anyone watching — it was just another look to be any other reishi breathing exercise.

But inside?

It was like molten glass being fed through his nerves, burning him apart in a slow manner. His muscles felt like they were being ripped apart and recarved again with a clinical rhythm. Just a quiet agony.

From the garden steps, Mei sipped her tea and watched Yuichi with a sideways glance. She didn't say anything.

The front gate let out a slight click, followed by the tok-tok-tok of boots on wood.

"Heeeey~ Anyone alive in this fancy little prison bunker? Where are you guys?"

Niko's voice was unmistakable to those who knew her. Bright, bouncy, with just enough mischief to make people nervous.

Yuichi opened one eye. The other eye twitched involuntarily from the internal pressure, but he stilled it and slowly unfolded his legs. His muscles screamed in protest.

'Shut up,' he told them. 'You'll heal in two hours.'

Mei set down her cup as Niko came striding in, holding a medium-sized box wrapped in layered cloth, humming some out-of-tune melody.

"Didn't think I'd find you two actually alive and lounging around. It's been days since I last saw you guys," she said with a grin. "Yuichi! You look terrible! What's wrong?"

"Good to see you too. Nothing's wrong my leg just fell asleep is all," he said, straightening up.

"You're glowing."

"I'm sweating."

"Same difference."

Yuichi blinked. "What's in the box?"

Niko puffed out her chest proudly. "You really forgot?"

He tilted his head. "Uh…"

She looked scandalized. "Two years ago. First time in the Black market. We went to the Dark Society, and you got all brainy and said you wanted a large reishi storage core for a no-drain defensive device—"

Yuichi's eyes widened.

"—Oh."

"Oh?! That's all I get?!"

"I forgot. A lot happened after that."

"You forgot! I nearly died building this, thank you very much! And you forgot!" Niko said, dramatically removing the cloth to reveal—

—a grotesque eyeball, bloodshot and veiny, with bat-like wings curled tight at its sides.

Yuichi stared. "…It's hideous."

"It's functional." Niko tapped it on the back.

The eye snapped open, unfurled its wings, and shot into the air like a startled insect. In one fluid motion, it hovered ten meters above the courtyard and let out a resonant hum — and a semi-transparent barrier bloomed outward in all directions, enveloping the entire estate in a static-free defensive shell.

No chant. No effort. Pure automation.

"Impressive," Yuichi whispered.

"Told you I could get it to work," Niko said smugly.

Mei just nodded. "It's ugly. But it's impressive."

"Like me," Niko grinned.

Yuichi looked up at the humming eye in the sky. He then thought of his burning arms, and finally, to the location where he kept the two secret scrolls he had obtained from the Ankoku house that he still had yet to decipher.

Not having to waste reiryoku to set up a barrier meant he could train anywhere now. Until now the only place he could train without holding back was Urahara's hidden training chamber.

Once this device was improved for his purposes he could train without wasting reiryoku to set his own barrier.
