Chapter 201: Homecoming
Dafa's arm stayed wrapped around my waist, supporting me as I limped down the crumbling warehouse stairs. Each step sent a dull ache through my ankle, but having him there made it bearable. The concrete steps groaned under our weight, echoing through the empty building like the final notes of a nightmare finally ending.
"Easy," Dafa murmured, his grip tightening. "We're almost out."
Outside, the afternoon sun hit my face like a warm blessing. I blinked against the brightness, feeling like a creature emerging from a cave after years underground.
"Let's go home now," Dafa said, guiding me toward his motorbike. "You need to rest."
He was right. I was running on fumes. The events of the past days had taken their toll, the warehouse, the vines, Evelyn's knife at my throat. And my ankle, twisted during the struggle, throbbed in protest with every step.
I managed a small smile. "You're not going to let me walk on my own, are you?"
