Chapter 195: Room 301
I followed Nurse Davis down the hallway, my injured ankle throbbing with every step, but the pain was a distant whisper compared to the storm raging in my mind. We had tended to room 302 first, a routine case of indigestion masquerading as cardiac arrest but Maria was the patient who truly haunted me.
Her sudden illness. Her request to see me by name. The timing, falling so precisely after the Minister's miraculous recovery.
Coincidence?
Finally, we arrived at room 301, Maria's room. Nurse Davis paused with her hand on the door handle, glancing back at me with an expression I couldn't quite read. It was fear, perhaps, or the kind of hesitation that comes before stepping into darkness.
"She's been asking for you," the nurse whispered. "In her sleep. Mumbling your name over and over. 'Dokter Alayna... Dokter Alayna...' It's been... unsettling."
A cold finger traced my spine.
"Has she had any visitors?"
