Before I could respond to Armand, Dr. Evans stepped forward, his presence a subtle shield.
"Thank you, Mr. Armand," Dr. Evans said, his voice firm. "I appreciate your concern. But I assure you, this is a matter that I am perfectly capable of handling. Nurse Monica is a valued member of our staff, and I am confident that she will learn from this experience."
He turned to Monica, his gaze stern but not unkind. "Nurse Monica, I expect to see a written apology on my desk by the end of the day. And I want to be clear: any further incidents of this nature will result in disciplinary action. Do I make myself clear?"
Monica nodded quickly, her eyes still fixed on the floor. "Yes, Dr. Evans. Perfectly clear."
As Dr. Evans spoke, the hallway, which had been frozen in tense silence, began to hum with a low buzz of sound. Whispers, like rustling leaves skittering across pavement, traveled from one huddle of staff to another.
