Trust the Process
"You thought what, Alayna?"
My mother's voice was soft, but it couldn't hide the steelness beneath. She wasn't asking a question though, she was issuing a challenge.
I hesitated a moment as my mind racing. I could tell her the truth, risk everything. Or I could lie, postpone the confrontation, and buy myself a little more time.
"I just thought... that maybe we could take a break," I said, choosing the path of least resistance. "Just for a day. We've been working so hard, and I thought it would be nice to relax, to spend some time together, just the two of us."
Her eyes narrowed, studying my face. I could feel her probing, searching for any sign of deception. But I held my gaze, forcing myself to appear calm and sincere
"Thinking too much is what causes problems. Trust the process. Trust us."
I swallowed.
