Chapter 69
Breaking News
The morning sun sliced through the haze of last night's events, but it couldn't cut through the unease settling over our breakfast table. It wasn't the usual quiet. This was something heavier, something that thrummed beneath the surface like a warning.
It happened at 8 AM, with the national morning news.
My father, sipping his tea, had the small television on as usual, just background noise. The volume low enough to ignore, but the anchor's voice, normally a calm morning drone, sharpened like a blade.
"Breaking news this morning. Minister of Defense, Magnus Mirazel, was rushed to Guardian Hospital late last night following a sudden, severe medical episode at his private residence. Sources confirm the Minister is stable in the ICU. Details remain unclear. An official statement is expected later today."
My spoon slipped from my fingers, clattering against the bowl.
The sound was small, yet somehow it detonated through the room.
