Chapter 4 - Journey to next trial

As Alex continued his journey through Aethoria, he couldn't shake the feeling that fate was guiding his every step. The weight of the Guardian's legacy rested on his shoulders, and he was determined to prove his worth. Little did he know that an opportunity to showcase his newfound skills would come sooner than expected.

As the sun reached its zenith, Alex found himself near the borders of Aethoria, where the realm met the territories of a neighboring country. The land seemed different here—vibrant fields stretching far and wide, punctuated by the majestic presence of a nearby castle.

He was contemplating his next destination when he heard the distant clamor of horse hooves and the clinking of armor. Peering through the trees, he saw a group of knights riding toward the castle—a royal procession, perhaps.

Curiosity piqued, Alex decided to follow the procession from a safe distance. As he drew nearer, he noticed a distinct air of arrogance emanating from the knights. Their confident demeanor seemed to suggest that they believed themselves invincible.

"They must be skilled warriors," Alex thought, acknowledging their imposing presence. Nonetheless, he knew better than to underestimate anyone in the world of Aethoria.

As he trailed them discreetly, a sudden commotion erupted ahead. The knights' horses whinnied in terror as a group of menacing monsters emerged from the surrounding woods. These were not ordinary creatures; they were monstrous versions of familiar beasts—twice the size, twice the ferocity.

[Fire Salamander (Level 8) has appeared!]

[Water Nymph (Level 7) has appeared!]

[Earth Golem (Level 10) has appeared!]

Knight 1: "Hahaha! These pathetic creatures dare challenge us? Prepare to be crushed!"

Knight 2: "Indeed! We'll teach them a lesson they won't forget."

Without hesitation, the knights unsheathed their swords and charged

at the monsters. But to Alex's dismay, their skills were overshadowed by

their arrogance.

As Alex observed the knights' struggle with the

monsters, a cunning smile crept across his face. Here was an

opportunity—an opportunity to not only showcase his power but also reap

some rewards.

With the knights focused on the battle, Alex stepped out of the shadows, his presence catching their attention.

Knight 1: "Who's this lad? Stay back! This is no place for a novice."

Knight 2: "A farm boy, probably. Let's not waste our time with him. Focus on these beasts!"

Alex's grin widened. He wasn't about to let this opportunity slip away.

Alex: "Hold on there, knights. You're quite outnumbered, and I see you're having some trouble."

Knight 3: "What do you suggest we do?"

Alex: "I could lend a hand, but it won't come for free. I expect a reward if I help you out of this mess."

The knights exchanged surprised glances. This was not the response they had anticipated.

Knight 1: "You dare ask for rewards to rescue us? Have you no honor?"

Alex: "Honor doesn't fill my stomach or line my pockets. Besides, I'm sure you knights have plenty of gold to spare."

Knight 2: "He has a point, you know. We could use some assistance."

Knight 3: "Fine. We'll reward you if you save us. But be warned, we'll not be cheated."

*This stupid kid we will use him as bait and run away..haha*

Alex: "Deal."

Without further ado, Alex lunged into the battle, his movements swift and precise. He unleashed his skills with calculated efficiency, strategically targeting the monsters' weak points.

[Fire Salamander's HP: 95%]

[Water Nymph's HP: 90%]

[Earth Golem's HP: 80%]

Knight 3: "What is he doing? ..is he perhaps skilled..?"

Knight 1: "Hmph, trying to impress us? He'll only get himself killed."

But they couldn't help but marvel at Alex's fluidity in battle.

The flames of his sword engulfed the Fire Salamander, leaving it writhing in pain. His movements were like a dance, evading the Water Nymph's attacks with grace, and his sword gleamed with the precision of a seasoned warrior as he clashed with the Earth Golem.

Knight 2: "By the gods, he's actually good!"

Knight 3: "damn.."

[Fire Salamander's HP: 90%]

[Water Nymph's HP: 100%]

[Earth Golem's HP: 90%]

With each swing of his sword, Alex could feel the energy coursing through his veins—the surge of power granted by the Guardian's legacy. He deftly dodged the Fire Salamander's fiery breath, the heat grazing past his cheek.

Alex: "Is that all you've got?"

He lunged forward, striking the Salamander's underbelly, causing it to howl in pain.

[Fire Salamander's HP: 30%]

The Water Nymph lashed out with a torrent of water, but Alex spun away, using the momentum to counterattack.

Alex: "Your moves are predictable."

His blade sliced through the Water Nymph's watery form, dispelling it into a puddle.

[Water Nymph's HP: 60%]

As the Earth Golem lumbered forward, Alex made quick calculations in his mind. He knew he couldn't face the massive creature head-on. Instead, he relied on his agility, darting around the Golem's colossal fists.

Alex: "You're slow and cumbersome!"

With a well-timed strike, Alex managed to chip away at the Golem's rocky exterior.

[Earth Golem's HP: 50%]

The monsters' attacks grew more frenzied, but Alex seemed to be dancing amidst their onslaught. He was a whirlwind of calculated strikes and evasions.

Alex: "Time to end this."

Gathering his energy, Alex focused on the Fire Salamander first. With a mighty roar, he unleashed a devastating combination of strikes, reducing the creature to a smoldering pile of ash.

[Fire Salamander has been defeated!]

The knights watched in awe as Alex's prowess displayed a mastery of combat beyond his years.

Knight 2: "Such power… he's a force to be reckoned with."

Knight 3: "A true Warrior, that's what he is."

With the Fire Salamander gone, Alex turned his attention to the Water Nymph. His sword cut through the water like a blade through air, leaving the creature vanquished.

[Water Nymph has been defeated!]

Finally, Alex faced the Earth Golem. His attacks were relentless, chipping away at the creature's stony exterior until it crumbled to pieces.

[Earth Golem has been defeated!]

[Experience Points Gained: +1500]

As the last monster fell, he turned to the knights, his hand outstretched.

Alex: "The reward, as promised."

*smiles at them with a grin on his face*

Knight 1: "Very well. We'll honor our end of the deal."

The knights handed over a small pouch of gold coins, which Alex greedily counted in front of them.

Alex: "Satisfactory. It was a pleasure doing business with you."

Knight 3: "You lack honor, lad. You may have the gold, but you've lost something far more valuable—respect."

Alex: "Respect doesn't fill my stomach either."

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving the knights to contemplate the unexpected turn of events.

As Alex ventured further into Aethoria, the weight of his actions weighed on him.

Perhaps he had been too cunning, too focused on personal gain. The display of his power had brought him rewards, but it had also left a bitter taste in his mouth.

"Is this truly the Warrior I want to become?...who cares duh" he pondered.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a faint voice, carried by the wind.

Voice: "You've shown promise, young one, but remember, the choices you make shape the Warrior you become."

The words of the Wisdom Guide echoed in his mind, a reminder that power alone was not enough to define a true Warrior.

Alex: "I know what i have to do."

Alex: "I may be cunning, but I will not lose sight of what truly matters."

With each step, he sought to strike a balance between ambition, greed and honor, growing wiser and stronger in the process. The trials ahead were not just battles against monsters; they were battles within himself—to define the Warrior he wanted to become.
