Classes at the primary school ended around four-thirty. When Mira led Rhea and the others to the school entrance, they arrived just as school was letting out. The three of them had to hide off to the side, watching the gate.
"Amelia is learning to read in there?" Rhea looked toward the school gate in astonishment. A swarm of children surged out—human children mixed with beastkin children. This sight surprised her greatly.
"Yes, Amelia is learning to read inside. There are specialized teachers who teach writing." Mira nodded. She glanced at Freya, who was sitting by the school gate, then tugged at Rhea's hand to pull her deeper into their hiding spot. Now was not the time to expose their identities.
"What is it?" Rhea frowned. Following Mira's gaze, she spotted a female wolf beastkin and exclaimed in shock, "There's actually a wolf beastkin here?"
"Mn. Her name is Freya. She's Lucas's subordinate and the one who escorts Amelia to school," Mira explained.
"Oh?" Rhea was surprised. That human noble was actually capable of having a wolf beastkin as a subordinate.
"Big Sister, are you going to approach Amelia directly?" Mira turned to ask.
"No, let's observe first." Rhea shook her head. She changed her mind after seeing Freya; wolf beastkin were not to be trifled with. She needed to gather intelligence before deciding how to take Amelia away.
"Amelia is coming out," Mira said in a low voice. She watched as Helen, the rabbit-eared girl, pulled Hazel, the deer-eared girl, along. Amelia was with them, greeting Freya.
"Huh?" Rhea was bewildered. Looking at Amelia's gentle expression and her exquisite clothing, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unfamiliarity.
"Amelia is living a good life," Mira whispered, afraid her big sister might impulsively rush up to snatch her.
"Let's go." Rhea pursed her lips and suddenly turned to leave. She wanted to investigate what was really going on.
"Big Sister? What's wrong?" Mira hurriedly chased after her, asking with concern. "Aren't we going to see Amelia?"
"How well do you know this Lucas?" Rhea answered with a question. Seeing Amelia's current appearance had deeply affected her; it was a look Amelia had never had while living by her side.
"Not very well. I just know he has many wild and imaginative ideas." Mira shook her head and recounted what she had seen and heard in the castle previously.
Looking at the silent Rhea, she seemed to guess something and added, "Big Sister, do you think all this is an illusion? That Lucas is deceiving Amelia?"
"I'll only know after I investigate." Rhea sighed. She had witnessed too much darkness—cunning nobles of all stripes, deranged merchants... there were simply too many of them.
She saw how happy Amelia looked. If she went up now and demanded to take Amelia away, putting aside whether Amelia was willing, that wolf beastkin would certainly stop her.
So she decided to find evidence—evidence that would make Amelia give up hope here—and then contact Amelia secretly to make her sister come away quietly. As for Lucas's alleged threats, he'd have to catch her first.
"Then shall we find a place to have dinner first? And then rest?" Mira asked hesitantly. She was actually getting a bit hungry.
"Fine," Rhea murmured. Her green eyes scanned the surroundings, and her nose twitched; she could smell the aroma of many delicious foods.
"Then let's go eat pizza," Mira said enthusiastically, striding toward the pizza shop.
"Pizza? That's a strange name." Rhea raised an eyebrow; this was the first time she had heard this unfamiliar term.
"Hehe... Big Sister, you'll know when we get there. It's incredibly delicious." Mira licked her lips. She had eaten pizza once before leaving, and the taste was unforgettable. Although the food in the castle was even better, they couldn't exactly get in there right now.
"Is that so?" Rhea curled her lip dismissively. She didn't believe this 'pizza' could be that good.
Half an hour later...
"Hey, hey, Big Sister, you're eating too much..." Mira looked at the wooden trays beside them; there were already seven stacked up.
"I'm not full yet. Three more," Rhea mumbled indistinctly while chewing on pizza. "No, make it five more pizzas. With extra meat."
"Stop, Big Sister. Let's go eat some other food, okay? No more pizza," Mira persuaded. The way people around them were staring was getting too weird.
Could you blame them? Three people had eaten seventeen pizzas, and now she wanted to order more. The kitchen had even sent someone out specifically to deliver them. Their behavior was just too embarrassing.
"Oh? Alright." Rhea wiped her mouth. Noticing the strange looks around her, her cheeks flushed slightly. She hurriedly stood up and walked out, looking rather like she was fleeing in defeat.
"Phew..." Mira sighed in relief. Drawing too much attention could expose their identities.
After paying the bill, she led the other birdkin beastkin out to chase after Rhea. Once outside, she saw that Rhea was already queuing up at a steamed bun shop. Mira couldn't help but slap her forehead. Was this really an investigation? She was clearly just here to eat.
Mira seriously suspected that if her big sister stayed in Sedona City for a few days, she wouldn't want to leave. The food in Sedona City was vastly superior to the bland, watery wheat porridge they ate every day at Stone Mountain.
"Sigh..." Mira sighed heavily, muttering to herself, "Are both sisters going to fall for this place?"
"What are you standing there like an idiot for? Pay the money." Rhea raised her hand and rapped Mira on the head, then walked away clutching a pile of steamed buns. She wanted to investigate while walking; perhaps she would discover new delicacies... cough, cough... new intelligence.
"Okay~~" Mira drawled, taking out her coin pouch to settle the bill.
Yet another person conquered by the food. She suspected that half the people here had stayed solely because of the cuisine.
