Ever since Maelie went bankrupt, Nina Walsh had been in a daze. She spent a month like a walking corpse, doing nothing but sleeping. When hunger struck, she would get up to eat, and then immediately return to bed.
Declan Grant had arranged the house for her. It was in a quiet neighborhood. Nina Walsh hadn't set foot outside since she moved in. She didn't know where she was, and she didn't care.
The only thing that could snap her back to reality was the occasional stirring in her abdomen, reminding her that she was carrying twins.
"Miss, the sun is out today. Shall I open the curtains and let some light in?" Faye, the woman hired to care for Nina Walsh, asked as she opened the door.
There was no response from the bed for a long while.
Faye turned and left. The moment the door clicked shut, the room was once again plunged into darkness.
