Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Escape

Nina Walsh struggled for her life, forcing the two bodyguards to use brute force to hold her down. A nurse immediately rolled up her sleeve and inserted the needle into her vein.

"Why isn't it drawing blood? Miss, please relax. We're just taking your blood."

"A patient has lost too much blood and is in urgent need of RH-negative blood. Saving a life is the greatest good deed you can do. Miss, can you please try to relax?"

"What did you say?" Nina Walsh turned her head, looking blankly at the nurse beside her.

The nurse, seeing that Nina had relaxed and blood was now flowing into the needle, continued to distract her. "The hospital's blood bank is out of RH-negative blood. It's a crisis, so we had to find someone for an on-the-spot draw. Don't worry, miss. We're only taking 200 milliliters; it won't affect your health."

As the blood flowed from the needle into the bag, it felt as if it were taking her soul with it. Nina Walsh gave up the struggle and went limp on the hospital bed.

The nurse quickly drew 200 ml. Nina Walsh couldn't help but ask, "Nurse, who is my blood for?"

Without a second thought, the nurse replied, "You don't know? It's for Ms. Clara Jacobs. She fell from a wire harness while filming on set and was rushed to the hospital."

The nurse had barely finished speaking when Aiden Sinclair pushed the door open and ordered, "Draw another 400 milliliters."

The nurse looked at him hesitantly. "The donor's physical condition isn't good. 200 milliliters was already her limit. Taking any more might..."

"Just draw it. If anything happens, I'll take full responsibility." Aiden Sinclair's words cut through the nurse's hesitation.

Nina Walsh lay weakly on the bed, her eyes fixed on Aiden Sinclair. 'I will curse him.'

'Stealing the blood of my own flesh and blood, strangling my own child... Aiden Sinclair, you will go to hell.'

The 400 milliliters felt like an eternity. Nina Walsh felt the weakness that came with every drop of blood leaving her body. The moment the needle was removed, she couldn't hold on any longer and passed out.

Meeting her resentful gaze, Aiden Sinclair's heart felt as if it had been viciously squeezed. His hand clenched involuntarily, but he relaxed it a second later, his expression betraying almost no emotion.

'He hated being deceived more than anything. Not only had she lied to him for two years, but she had also dared to touch his things. This was just a small punishment, that was all.'

"Watch her. Don't let her take a single step out of this room."

...

When Nina Walsh opened her eyes again, it was the next day. The young nurse from yesterday saw she was awake and happily set up a small table for her.

"Miss Walsh, you're awake! You've been asleep for a whole day. Come on, sit up and have something to eat. There's lean pork congee and chicken soup."

"Take it away. I don't want to eat."

Nina Walsh tried to get out of bed, but she didn't have an ounce of strength.

"Miss Walsh, don't move. You gave so much blood yesterday. You're very weak and need to rest and replenish your strength," the young nurse advised.

Nina Walsh thought of the child in her womb, wondering if her baby was still okay.

'Baby, just hold on a little longer. Mommy will get you out of here soon.'

An idea had already formed in Nina Walsh's mind. "Fine, I'll eat."

"Okay, I'll help you raise the bed."

The young nurse enthusiastically cranked up the hospital bed and brought a spoonful of congee to her lips.

"I can do it myself."

"Miss Walsh, let me feed you. I'm your caregiver; it's part of my job."

Nina Walsh gave in and let the young nurse feed her a bowl of congee and a bowl of chicken soup. She immediately felt some of her strength return.

The young nurse was very talkative. Nina Walsh couldn't help but ask, "How many more days do I have to stay here?"

The young nurse shook her head. "I don't know about that. It depends on Ms. Jacobs's condition. Once she's stable, Miss Walsh, you can be discharged. But don't worry too much. Ms. Jacobs wasn't injured; she just has a congenital coagulation disorder, which is why she was bleeding so heavily."

Nina Walsh said no more. She watched the young nurse clear the dishes and leave. Outside the door stood Aiden Sinclair's two bodyguards.

'Is he afraid I'll run away and cut off Clara Jacobs's blood supply?'

'Aiden Sinclair really goes all out for his sweetheart.'

After finishing her breakfast, Nina Walsh went to the bathroom. She came out with an embarrassed look on her face and said, "I just threw a wad of paper in the toilet, and I think I accidentally clogged it."

The young nurse went in to check. Sure enough, the toilet wouldn't flush. "It's a small problem. I'll call the service desk and have someone come fix it."

Nina Walsh clutched her stomach and squatted down. "But my stomach really hurts now. I have to go to the bathroom, and I can't hold it."

The young nurse was kind-hearted. She immediately helped her up. "I'll take you to the restroom outside."

"Okay, thank you."

Leaning on the young nurse, Nina Walsh hurried toward the door. As soon as it opened, the two bodyguards raised their arms to stop them.

"Mr. Sinclair's orders. She's not to take a single step out of this room."

The young nurse said anxiously, "Her stomach hurts and she needs the toilet, but the one in the room is clogged. I'm taking her to the public restroom down the hall. If you don't trust us, you can follow behind."

The two bodyguards glanced at the public restroom just a few steps away and nodded, following them from behind.

The young nurse helped Nina Walsh into the women's restroom. The bodyguards stood on either side of the entrance.

The young nurse pushed open a stall door and said thoughtfully, "Miss Walsh, I'll wait for you out here. If you feel unwell, just call me."

The young nurse turned to leave. Just then, a swift chop landed on the back of her neck, and she immediately fainted.

"I'm sorry."

Nina Walsh changed into the young nurse's clothes, put on her cap and mask, and walked out with her head down.

The two bodyguards stood guard rigidly at the entrance to the women's restroom, attracting many stares.

Nina Walsh didn't dare delay for a second. Wearing the mask, with her hands in the pockets of her nurse's uniform, she walked at a steady, unhurried pace. As expected, she didn't arouse the bodyguards' suspicion.

A few minutes later, Nina Walsh was standing at the elevator bank. She couldn't help but let out a huge sigh of relief.

'I should have known Aiden Sinclair's revenge wouldn't be so simple. He wants me to live a life worse than death.'

'Besides giving blood, what's next? If Clara Jacobs gets hurt again, will I be expected to offer up my heart and lungs for her?'

'Aiden Sinclair is definitely capable of something like that. That's why I can't just wait here to die. I have to escape.'

DING—

Just as Nina Walsh's thoughts were in a turmoil, the elevator arrived. The doors slid open slowly. With a thrill of excitement, Nina Walsh walked toward the elevator, only to look up and see the tall figure of Aiden Sinclair standing right in the center.
