How did Alex know that Jacob was faking it??
Because he was using soul eyes on Jacob all the time. if he was not using them he would have died from Jacob's attack.

Alex slashed the puppet and sliced it in half.
but in a few seconds it recovered completely, Alex sliced it in four pieces this time, but it again recovered in just a few seconds, Alex kept slicing it.
After slicing the puppet for thousands of times Alex noticed something.
