Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Stars and Keys

A crash was heard outside. Shaking buildings caused the residents to shoot up awake from their sleep.

"Mom!" yelled the voice in worry

"Jim!" the older woman yelled in worry as two people ran down to the main hall. The brunette-haired young teen was staggering down in worry from the crash outside. Jim and his mother ran out in the rain.

Shock at seeing... a ship? It's probably a ship, but not like any ship they've seen before; it was so small, so yellow, and so...blocky. A hiss of air was then heard as the top of the 'ship '-a shadow then stood within the smoke.

Jim stood between the figure on the ship and his mother.

The figure takes a step forward, but as he does so, he misses the step.

"Oof!"

The thing fell to the ground with a heavy thud.

The two look in confusion for what they thought was a pirate.

"Ugh"

A groan left the figure as he slowly got up. Walking out was a young blonde who looked the same, if not slightly older, than Jim.

"Jaune, you ok?!" yelled out a female voice. "Eh, I'm sure he's fine, Ortensia; he's tougher than he looks. He's been in the Dark place for heart's sake," another voice followed, not sounding worried.

"Ugh, yeah im fine, Ortensia; at least someone worried about me," answered the young blonde kindly at first, then pointedly to the second.

"Eh, what you want, kid im just giving you some character development the voice replied nonchalantly as the sound of metal clanks and clinks came from within the vessel.

"Ah, dang it seems like we got some missing pieces for the Gummi ship when you were trying to get us out of that Heartless pirate ship array, but we got nicked; it might take me a week to fix this," the second voice proclaimed.

"Can't you fix it faster?" Jaune asked, while patting the dust off his person.

"If I had the Gummi pieces for this, it would have taken me at least a day or two, but I don't," the voice proclaimed.

"Please tell me that the regenerative shields are working at least?" Jaune asked, almost pleading A shadow figure's head popped up. "Um, Jaune-" she tried getting the young man's attention.

"Well yeah, but sorta it's not going as fast as I would like, but that's why it's gonna take a week, cause the dang thing is going slower than it should!" the other voice exclaimed louder, his voice easily becoming more annoyed the more he talked about the contraption.

"Um, Jaune," Ortensia tried speaking again but was cut off by him again.

"I can use gravity magic to carry it out of view so that you can work on it. In peace, all we need is a place to hide it." Jaune tried to assist in helping their team mechanic/doctor/scientist.

"Um, fellas", Ortensia again tried to speak, her voice a little strained now.

"That's a good idea, but question: can you multitask on constantly setting a steady stream of magic while trying to avoid missteps and trying to calculate the amount of force along with weight when it comes to the ship itself with two current passengers still on board that could sway the ship in any feasible direction with their weight? And do you even have good control over magic?" The voice asked, then countered.

"...."

"Thought so," he replied to the silence

"Oswald...did you just call me fat?"

Bonk

Crash

Clank

The sound of crashes and hits and a... horn? Occurred In the cockpit of the ship. As Ortensia is now out of the ship, another figure jumps out of the ship. A rabbit?

"Wha-what!? When did I say that?!"

"Oh, when the two on-lookers were watching you two talking about relocating the ship," she simply pointed. What she said caught their ears.

Two on-lookers?

The two turned to where she pointed, at the two people looking at this comical situation.

Both sides looked confused, and a single question came up.What now?

— 5 days later—

"Ortensia, get this to table 5," ordered Ms. Hawkins Oswald. Ortensia helped out at the Inn, taking orders and delivering food, while Jaune was in the back, where the kitchen was. Surprisingly, holding down the fort well.

"You got it, Sarah!" Ortensia Cheered out.

The inn's owner went towards the kitchen window, the blond chef on the stove.

"Hey Jaune, have you seen Jim anywhere?" she asked while looking around the inn, not seeing her son anywhere.

"Not since this morning. He said that he'll be back by lunch rush"

"Which was a few minutes ago," She replied

"..."

"..."

The single silence was louder than words. As the two had the same thought, as if the universe spoke to confirm the thought.

Knock

Knock

Knock

"Oh no," Sarah dreaded, hoping that this was something else. Under her breath, pleading that this isn't the police.

She then opens the door and sees.

"Hey, Mom"

It was her son.

"Mrs.Hawkins,"

... with the cops

"Ooh, wrong turn," commented a dog-human hybrid. With the police holding him from the back of his jacket...with cuffs on.Sarah just let out a tired sigh.

"Okay, thanks for the lift, guys." Jim was then let go as he tried to nonchalantly walk away.

"Not so fast," the monotone voice spoke once more, stopping the young man with a hand on the shoulder.

We apprehended your son operating a solar vehicle in a restricted area," said the other robo-cop #2.

"Violation 904 section 15 paragraph- um," the robotic cop tried paraphrasing word for word but forgot.

"6," Jim added dejectedly to the robo-cop.

"Thank you," Robo-cop thanked him.

"Yeah, don't mention it," the young man said sarcastically.

"Jim," his Mother rasped at him to not make his situation worse than it already is.

"As you are aware, Ma'am, this constitutes a violation of his probation," Robo 2 declared.

"Yes, yes, no, I understand, um, but c-could we just-" She tried to speak, trying not to make the situation worse, but the words aren't coming.

"Pardon me, officers?" That's when another voice jumped in.

"Um, if I might, uh, interject here, I am the noted astrophysicist Dr. Delbert Doppler. Perhaps you've heard of me, no? Uh, I have a clipping-" the dog-human trying to help the young boy from his situation.

"Are you the boy's father?" robo cop 2 questioned, pointing down.

"Oh, what, no / heavens no," the two said in Unison. The two chuckled, " ew." Sarah couldn't help but feel like the thought itself felt wrong.

This got a slight reaction from the dog-hybrid, who raised a brow in slight offense at how quickly the lady said it but was quickly over it.

"he's a family friend," Sarah Clarified.

"Then back off, sir! For you are not a part of this!" both robo cops exclaimed, being big jerks about it, to the human-dog hybrid.

"Thank you, Delbert. I will take it from here." She thanked the astrophysicist for at least trying to help calm the situation, while kindly pushing him back to his table."We have impounded his vehicle; any more slip-ups and it will be a one-way ticket to juvenile hall," informed Robo #2.

"Wrong choices"

"Dead enders"

"Losers"

The two robo cops say one after the other, and Jaune sees that some of these words are affecting Jim, but the last one affected him more than the others. He gives the cops a dirty look as they leave.

Jim looks at them like he has telekinesis, hoping he could make the door hit them on the way out.

But none of that happened.

"Jim," the boy flinched at the stern tone of his mother. And slowly turned to her.

"Ooh, someone's in trouble~" Oswald couldn't help but tease the young man.

Jim looks annoyed at the rabbit.

Jaune smacks the rabbit on the back of the head.

Sarah stands where he was glaring at. Glancing up at her, he saw her face become stern, then fall into disappointment along with a sigh.

Everyone in the inn looked at the drama in front of them with interest. Sarah turned around; they were caught, and they looked the other way.

Pulling him into the kitchen for a more private talk.

"Jim, do you want to go to juvenile hall? Is that it?" she asked in a stern voice.

Yet her son didn't answer her, choosing to grab some of the used plates and go to the sink.

"Jim," she called to him, a caring concern easily lathered up. Trying to hold back the concern.

"Mom, no big deal. There wasn't anyone around; it's just those cops won't get off my..." he spoke like any teenager his age, not really taking the threat seriously or just trying to act like it's not bothering him, but instantly stopped what he was going to say. His mother gave him a stern look.

"Ahem!"

But the tense atmosphere was lost because of a customer.

"Mrs.Hawkins! My juice!" exasperated an elderly alien.

"Yes, I'll be right there, Mrs. Dunwoody!" said Sarah.

But before she left, she turned to her son. Jim, I just don't want you to throw away your life"He didn't trust what he would say, so he just nodded to think about it for later.

"So where were you at?" Jaune asked, trying to make conversation as he was making some soup.

"Don't- just don't start, Jaune," Jim replied in a deadpan tone. He didn't want to start after that talk with his mom.

An awkward silence was left within the kitchen
