Lynn's POV
October's Red Valley Pack grew cooler with each passing day, as the belated autumn chill swiftly enveloped the bustling city. On the evening of the fourth, I was engrossed in studying at my desk in the quiet and spacious living room. Suddenly, my phone screen lit up with an incoming call. It lay on the right side of the desk, easily reachable with just a lift of my hand.
Before the ringing tone even sounded, the screen illuminated. Instinctively, I picked up the phone, recognizing the caller. However, upon seeing who it was, my hand froze momentarily, and my eager movements slowed.
I answered the call, and Karl's languid voice came through the receiver. "Hey, Lynn, why can't I reach my sister on her phone?"
I activated the speakerphone and placed the phone down. "She's gone out."
