Chapter 14 - DYLAN

I woke up to the annoying beeping of my alarm, breaking the peaceful silence of the morning. Feeling groggy and disoriented, I let out a soft groan and reached out to hit the snooze button, desperately craving a few more minutes of sleep. Finally managing to silence the alarm with a sigh of relief, the room once again became quiet. Still feeling half-asleep, I struggled to fully wake up and get ready for the day ahead.

i drank the glass of water which of placed on my side table the night before, hoping it would help me feel more awake. As I slowly began to regain my senses, I reminded myself of the busy day awaiting me and pushed myself to get out of bed and start my morning routine.

Dragging myself out of bed this morning felt like a Herculean task. My mind was still foggy from sleep, and the day ahead seemed daunting. I needed something to shake off the grogginess and get my brain firing on all cylinders. So, I made a beeline for the bathroom, hoping a cold shower would do the trick.

Dragging myself to the bathroom, With a tired yawn, I shuffled over to the sink, rubbing my eyes to banish the remnants of sleep. It was time to shake off the drowsiness and wake up.

With a determined sigh, I reached down and grasped the waistband of my trousers, pulling them down in one swift motion. They slipped off my legs easily, pooling around my feet as I stepped out of them. The fabric, once warm and comforting, now felt like a barrier between me and the invigorating cold shower awaiting.

Next came the shirt, its soft fabric clinging lightly to my skin. I peeled it off, feeling a rush of cool air against my chest as it slipped over my head and joined the pile on the floor. Standing there in just my underwear, I felt a sense of liberation wash over me as if shedding those pyjamas was shedding the last remnants of sleep.

With a newfound energy coursing through my veins, I reached out and turned on the shower, the sound of rushing water filling the room.

As I stood under the icy stream, I braced myself for the shock. The first few seconds felt like a plunge into the Arctic Ocean – my whole body tensed up, and I had to fight the urge to retreat. But gradually, as I adjusted to the temperature, a strange clarity washed over me.

As the cold water cascaded over me, it was like a refreshing wave washing away the mental cobwebs. With each icy droplet, I could feel the fog of fatigue lifting, replaced by a surge of revitalizing energy. It was as if every shiver and tingle sparked a sense of alertness, awakening my mind from its slumber. By the time I turned off the tap, I was buzzing with a newfound clarity, ready to tackle the day head-on.

with a languid motion, I reached for the plush towel, the fabric soft and inviting against my fingertips. Slowly, I drew it towards me, relishing in the anticipation of what was to come. As I wrapped it around my waist, the towel caressed my skin, a luxurious embrace that sent shivers down my spine.

With each step out of the shower, I exuded an aura of confidence, the steam swirling around me like a cloak of mystery. Water droplets cascaded down my sculpted physique, glistening in the dim light of the bathroom. The towel, barely clinging to my hips, hinted at the wealth and power that surrounded me.

As I stood before the mirror, I couldn't help but admire the sight before me. With a smirk playing on my lips.

Stepping out of the bathroom, I walked confidently to my wardrobe. Each step carried a sense of assurance and a hint of swagger, reflecting my confidence. My fingers effortlessly found the smooth, black fabric of my tailored suit.

Slipping it on, the suit hugged my body, emphasizing my figure with elegance. It spoke of my taste and wealth, radiating power and sophistication. The deep black color echoed my unwavering confidence, matching my ambition and determination.

As I fastened each button, I felt a surge of self-assurance. It was like a wave of energy flowing through me, filling the room with a palpable presence. The mirror didn't just show my appearance; it reflected my charm and allure.

In this outfit, I wasn't just a man; I was a force to be reckoned with. A symbol of success and magnetism.

I glanced at my watch, I noted the time: 8 AM. Descending the stairs, I encountered the maids who greeted me with a cheerful "Good morning." With a nod in acknowledgement, I continued going my way, Heading outside to meet my driver, I slid into the backseat as he graciously opened the door for me. As he starts driving, I find solace in the familiar routine, losing myself in the soft rhythm of the passing scenery.

After a brief drive, he skillfully parks the car and courteously opens the door, allowing me to step out. As I enter the building, the receptionists warmly greet me, but I offer only a small nod in response, avoiding direct eye contact as I proceed towards the elevator. I pressed the button for the top floor and the elevator took me up.

As the elevator doors glide open, I step out into the lobby, where the staff greets me once again. Ignoring the pleasantries, I stride purposefully through the lobby. James falls into step beside me and launches a briefing about the day ahead.

As we walk, I glance around the lobby, noting the hustle and bustle of the morning rush. People hurry by, engrossed in their own agendas, while the ambient sounds of conversation and movement create a lively atmosphere.

Despite the distractions, I remain focused, absorbing every detail James provides about the day's agenda. His briefing is thorough, covering everything from important meetings to potential issues that may arise. I appreciate his attention to detail and the clarity of his communication, which helps me stay organized and prepared.

As we approached my cabin i turned and asked James about the new secretary who would be joining today.

James looked at the clock on the wall which read the time 8:45 am. '' her joining was at 9 am so she will be here soon, Don't worry now I have told you about the meeting with Micah Jackson which is at 11 am until then you can review the files and documents that would be presented today'' he said opening the door and we both walk in.

Micah Jackson was one of the big deals back in his time even now as well he was a good friend of my fathers and worked with him for over the years so I respect him and every meeting with him makes me feel a tad bit nervous because he is a critic as well as a father figure for me. we never had any informal conversations but he would join Dad for gold on Sundays so I do know him a bit

i hummed in response and settled in my seat. '' Allright I will check those and call her again you know I hate late comers.

''Sure boss '' James replied and closed the door as he went out.

I take a moment to settle in, mentally shifting gears to focus on reviewing the files and documents James mentioned. I make my way to my desk, where a stack of papers awaits my attention. As I sift through them, I take notes and highlight key points.

The sound of pen scratching against paper fills the room as I methodically work through the materials, ensuring that no detail escapes my attention. I highlight key points, making them stand out against the sea of text on the pages before me.

Occasionally, I pause to reflect on the significance of certain information, mentally preparing potential questions or points to raise during the meeting. Each document offers a glimpse into the complexities of the issues at hand, and I absorb the nuances with focused determination.

As the minutes pass, I lose myself in the task at hand, fully immersed after i get done i glance at the clock and it reads the time 10:15. my eyebrows furrowed as i get pissed that she is late i picked up the phone and dialled a number.

''Maya, has Joane arrived yet ?" I asked, and my voice was stressed because I needed these files to be updated, and that would take time as well. I can't expect this meeting to go wrong at any cost.

'' No, sir, she has not arrived yet. '' She said I was about to end the call when she added,'' Oh yes, sir, she just walked in. I will send her to you immediately.'' Then she ended the call.

I put the files on one side and sighed in relief that at least she had arrived now, but how careless of her to make a bad impression on her first day.

after a couple of minutes i hear a knock on my door. i guess her highness has finally arrived.

Come in," I say, my voice steady but tinged with a hint of coolness.

The small, nervous figure steps tentatively into the room, her apology hanging in the air like a fragile thread. "Sorry for being late, boss," she says, her voice tinged with nervousness. As she stands before me, I can sense her discomfort, her unease palpable in the way she fidgets with the hem of her shirt. It's clear that she's acutely aware of her appearance and the impression it conveys, and her apology speaks volumes about her desire to rectify the situation.

I observe her closely, taking note of her disheveled appearance—the black tights and top seem incongruous against the backdrop of the formal office setting, and her tangled hair speaks of a morning rush that didn't quite go as planned.

Her appearance immediately grates on my nerves. The last thing I need is someone who can't bother to present themselves properly in the workplace. It's infuriating to see such blatant disregard for professionalism, especially in a setting where it's paramount.

Another thing I despise most is looking unprofessional in working premises, and her appearance is a glaring example of just that. It's as if she couldn't be bothered to put in the effort to look presentable, despite knowing the expectations.

"There's no point in apologizing now," I say, my tone clipped and devoid of warmth. "Get these files fixed. You have about 20 minutes. Then I want you back in here, and on time," I continue, handing her the documents with a firm grip.

"And please, do something with your hair. Try to look at least presentable," I added sharply, my frustration evident in the sharpness of my words. I meet her gaze with a steely resolve, unwilling to tolerate any further lapses in professionalism.

As she takes the documents from my outstretched hand, I can see a flicker of embarrassment in her eyes. Despite my annoyance, a part of me softens at the sight of her discomfort. Nevertheless, I stand firm in my expectations, knowing that accountability is essential in maintaining standards within the workplace.

With a curt nod, I dismiss her, turning my attention back to the tasks at hand. Today's meeting is too important to be derailed by distractions, and I refuse to let anything—or anyone—stand in the way of its success.

with another knock james came inside,'' Sir Mr. jackson has arrived he is waiting for you in the conference room.

'' Allright im coming'' i said and got up.

As I rose from my seat, a surge of determination coursed through me, propelling me forward. With a swift adjustment to my suit, I straightened my tie, ensuring every detail was just right. It wasn't just about appearance; it was about setting the tone for what was to come.

Walking down the hallway, I could feel the weight of anticipation building with each step. The sound of my shoes against the polished floor echoed in the quiet corridor, a steady rhythm that matched the beat of my heart. Each stride was purposeful, every movement a declaration of readiness.

Entering the conference room, a charged energy filled the air, palpable excitement sparking throughout. Every step toward the front exuded purpose, each footfall resonating with my presence.

As I approached, all eyes fixed on me, their anticipation mounting. The room hushed, hanging on my every move as I claimed my place at the head of the table

Taking my seat, I settled in with a sense of calm resolve. My posture was erect, my demeanor poised.

"Good morning, Mr. Jackson," I greeted Micah.

"Good morning to you as well, Dylan. You look sharp today," he said, his eyes appraising my appearance.

"Thank you, Mr. Jackson. I could say the same for you," I replied promptly.

He nodded and gave me a small smile before asking, "So, shall we start?"

"Yes, sir. Shall we discuss the agenda first?" I suggested.

"Sure," he replied, indicating his agreement
