Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Quiet Stop

The horizon began to pale as night slowly loosened its grip over the land. A faint silver glow spread across the eastern sky, pushing away the darkness bit by bit. The stars dimmed gradually, retreating into the depths of the heavens as dawn approached, leaving behind a calm and quiet world preparing to wake.

He did not slow down.

Standing atop the Celestial Sword, his robes fluttered lightly in the rushing wind while his gaze remained fixed forward. Beneath him, the endless stretch of forest began to change. The dense canopy that had dominated his vision for months slowly gave way to signs of civilization. Roads carved through the land in deliberate paths, cultivated fields stretched out in neat patterns, and clusters of houses appeared in the distance like scattered pieces of a larger design.

"Finally," he muttered under his breath.

After hours of uninterrupted flight, even someone like him felt the need for something simple. Food, rest, and a brief return to normal life were all he wanted right now. Living off spirit beast meat for the past six months deep within the Star Dou Forest had kept him alive and strong, but it lacked something essential. No matter how rich the meat was in energy, it could not replace the satisfaction of proper cooking, seasoning, and variety.

His stomach tightened slightly, as if agreeing with his thoughts. Living off spirit beast meat for over six months in the depths of the Star Dou Forest often left one with a huge appetite.

"Yeah, I know," he said quietly, his tone dry but not annoyed.

The outline of a small town appeared ahead. It was not large, nor particularly bustling, but it carried a steady sense of life. Thin streams of smoke rose from chimneys, curling into the morning air. Early risers moved about with familiarity, preparing for the day ahead, while merchants began setting up their stalls near the entrance. Their voices, though distant, carried clearly through the calm air.

It was nothing remarkable.

And that was exactly why it was perfect.

He slowed his pace.

"This will do."

The Celestial Sword dipped gently as he descended, cutting through the air in a smooth and controlled arc. His landing was quiet and precise, the blade lowering just enough for him to step off without disturbing the ground beneath his feet. With a simple flick of his wrist, the sword vanished without a trace.

He rolled his shoulders once, letting the tension ease out of his body.

"Alright."

He glanced down at himself and paused.

Dust clung stubbornly to his robes, and dark stains marked the fabric in several places. The edges were torn and worn, frayed from months of constant movement and battle. In his current state, he looked less like a Titled Douluo and more like someone who had wandered out of a battlefield without rest.

"Yeah, I should change this soon, but first things first," he muttered.

Without hesitation, he began walking toward the town.

The guards at the entrance remained alert, scanning their surroundings as expected. However, they did not notice him passing through. It was not due to negligence; he simply moved too smoothly and too quickly for their senses to catch. At most, they felt a faint gust of wind brush past them, something too insignificant to question.

He entered the town without issue.

Inside, the place was already coming to life. Vendors arranged their goods with practiced efficiency, while hawkers called out their wares in rising voices. Children ran through the streets, laughing as they chased each other without concern. A few Soul Masters could be spotted among the crowd, though none stood out as particularly strong.

His gaze swept across the surroundings briefly, taking everything in with quiet observation.

"Peaceful," he noted.

"Helios."

[Yes, Host.]

"Introduce me to your functions."

A translucent panel appeared instantly before him, hovering neatly within his vision without obstructing his view.

[System Interface:

Inventory

Host Panel

Scanner

System Store]

"Simple enough. Open Inventory."

The interface shifted smoothly, revealing a structured grid.

[Inventory:

Empty]

He raised an eyebrow slightly.

"Empty, huh?"

[The Host currently possesses no stored items.]

"That tracks."

The system was clean and efficient, with no clutter or unnecessary detail. Everything was clearly organized and easy to understand.

"Show me my stats."

The panel changed again.

[Host Panel:

Name: Wang Luan

Age: 25

Realm: Titled Douluo

Spirit Power: Level 92

Martial Spirits:

1. Celestial Sword

2. Nirvana Lotus

3. Eternal Monarch Body

Spirit Rings (Celestial Sword):

Black Black Black Black Black Black Black Black Red]

His gaze lingered on the last line.

"Still not used to that."

Eight black rings and one red ring formed a configuration that defied common sense in the current era. Even in the knowledge he carried from his previous life, such a setup was extremely rare and only seen among the absolute peak experts.

He closed the panel.

"Open Scanner."

[Function Activated.]

A subtle shift occurred in his perception. The world did not change outwardly, but internally, something new layered itself over his vision.

A passing cultivator entered his range.

[Scan Result:

Name: Lin Feng

Spirit Power: Level 26

Threat Level: Negligible]

"Useful."

His gaze moved to others nearby, and each time, information appeared instantly.

"So I can just check anyone like this?"

[Affirmative.]

"That's borderline cheating."

After a brief pause, he continued.

"Open Quests."

The panel flickered before stabilizing.

[Quests:

None]

"None? Helios... Care to explain?"

[The Host has no active quests. Quests are triggered at key moments and may be accepted or declined. Completing them provides rewards.]

"So no free benefits unless something interesting happens, am i not right?"

[Correct.]

He exhaled lightly.

"Figures."

"Open the System Store."

The panel shifted again, revealing rows of items. Techniques, materials, and rare resources filled the interface, each labeled and priced.

"And the currency?"

[System Points.]

"Which I don't have."

[Correct again. System Points are obtained through Quests.]

He shook his head slightly.

"We'll deal with that later."

The interface closed.

He glanced around once more.

"Now… food."

The smell reached him immediately. Freshly cooked dishes filled the air with warmth and richness. Spices blended with the scent of rice and roasted meat, creating something far more appealing than anything he had eaten in months.

His stomach responded instantly.

"Yeah, definitely food."

He followed the scent to a nearby inn. The building was modest but well-maintained, with a wooden sign swaying gently outside.

Inside, the atmosphere was warm and lively. Patrons filled the tables, their conversations blending with the clinking of utensils. The smell of food was stronger here, layered with a faint hint of alcohol.

The innkeeper looked up.

"Welcome, traveler."

He nodded.

"Food and a clean room."

A gold coin landed on the counter.

The innkeeper smiled and accepted it without hesitation.

"Of course."

Moments later, he sat at a table as dishes were brought out one after another. Rice, meat, vegetables, fried chicken, steamed buns, and roast dishes filled the table. Three gourds of rice wine were placed beside them.

The food was simple, but it carried a depth of aroma that made it immediately satisfying.

He picked up his chopsticks, paused briefly, then began eating.

The taste hit immediately. Warm, rich, and balanced, it was everything he had been missing during his time in the forest.

"This is good," he said quietly.

For the first time since everything began, there was no pressure weighing on him. No system prompts interrupted his thoughts, and no overwhelming forces demanded his attention. There was only food, warmth, and a brief sense of normalcy.

He leaned back slightly after a few bites and took a drink from one of the wine gourds. The warmth spread through him, easing the lingering tension in his body.

"Maybe becoming a Titled Douluo isn't that bad."

[The System notes the Host's satisfaction.]

"Don't ruin the moment."

He continued eating at a steady pace.

Outside, the town grew more active as the day progressed. Inside, the atmosphere remained steady and comfortable.

For now, he allowed himself to relax.

There were still things waiting for him. Old debts that had to be repaid, now that he was a Titled Douluo. But for this moment, he chose not to think about them.

All in good time... he thought, glancing toward the window as he took another sip of wine.

The world outside continued as it always had, unaware of the changes taking place beyond its understanding.

And for a brief while, that was enough.
