Xaviera Evans' heart ached, and her breath trembled, "The doctor on the boat said that old family head Brooke had a way to detoxificate, what is it?"
"Fight poison with poison," Albert Sullivan frowned. "It means giving him another kind of poison. The two poisons counteract each other, slowing down the spread of toxins. The method is risky, but as long as he survives, he can at least live for another ten years without going blind or losing his ability to move."
Xaviera urgently said, "Can't my blood be used? I can—"
"He has already taken the poison," Albert Sullivan interrupted Xaviera's words. This was Caleb Mamet's own choice, and he would rather choose a risky path than let Xaviera get hurt.
Xaviera froze for a moment, as if someone had cut her heart, and her whole body went numb.
"Caleb wants to protect you. He can't become blind, nor a cripple. This is the only way he can choose."
