CHAPTER START—
"Wow," Oberon is both intrigued and horrified by the sight far below him.
There he could see a small village shrouded in a thick purple mist.
At the edge of the village is a sea of tents the Fiore Royal Army moving people and their belongings away from the area.
"Good thing I got here early," Oberon says as he glances at the horizon, seeing the rising sun in the distance.
With a thought he descends to this mountain village, raising his hands in surrender as some of the people and soldiers notice his descent.
"Oh gods not another one!" one man yells out from the crowd, causing the soldiers to point their spears at him.
"State your name!"
"Oberon Alkwan of Fairy Tail, I'm here to deal with a Dark Wizard."
The soldiers look between each other as Oberon lands, with the people giving him quite a bit of room.
Oberon then shows them his Guild Emblem, allowing the men to relax.
"You're early," one of the men says, nodding for Oberon to follow him. "Thank you for coming so soon."
"The longer I wait the harder it would be to track her," Oberon says.
"Not much tracking to do, she's in the village," the man gestures to the village drenched in purple mist. "That purple stuff is her doing, it rips the Magic Energy from anyone it touches and gives it to her, half the village fell before anyone noticed it, and now she's standing her ground in there."
"Do you have a plan?" Oberon asks as they walk to a tent closest to the village, filled with soldiers preparing Explosive Lacrima. "The plan is to burn the village–and her–unless we can get a Wizard capable of handling this here soon."
"Well, I'll see what I can do," Oberon says as he takes out a Storage Card and withdraws one of his Journals.
The man sees what he's doing and dares to get hopeful, "Have you seen this before? Even Wind Magic can't move it."
"There are many 'Drain' Spells, but this is the Miasma Magic version, I'm double checking my notes on it," Oberon says. "If I'm reading this correctly I should be able to enter the village no problem, but do we have any more information on her?"
"She has Requip: The Swordsman. Not sure what else," the man says. "Her Guild has been a thorn in our side for a while now, but we've never even heard of her until this. They usually run extortion rings, and a town that refuses to pay up, well, you see what she did."
"Then she could have important information."
"Which is why I'd prefer she be taken alive, not that I'd cry if that wasn't possible."
"I rather not kill anyone," Oberon says as he stores his Journal back into the card.
The man gives him a strange look, not used to Wizards who take these kinds of Jobs being against a little bloodshed.
'Well he's supposed to be Fairy Tail's prodigy, maybe he's strong enough to handle Dark Wizards without fighting to kill them,' the man thinks as Oberon begins walking forward.
"Hey, are you going in right now?" the man asks while quickly catching up to Oberon. "Are you sure you're ready?"
"Yeah, if I'm not out in six hours, call Fairy Tail, they'll know what to do," Oberon says as he leaves the man behind, confidently entering the fog.
Taking a deep breath, he doesn't smell anything.
"So I guess the scent is part of the Magic, and since invasive Magic doesn't work on me, I can't smell this stuff," Oberon says as he continues walking around.
After a few minutes, he gets toward the middle of the small village, at the largest building, the town hall.
"Are you in there?!" Oberon yells out. "You know the village is surrounded, and if you don't come down they'll burn it all down just to kill you! Just come out!"
After a few moments of not getting a response, Oberon walks forward and knocks on the door, not getting any response.
"If you think I'll run out of Magic Energy, you know that's not true, I'm sure you can't feel any Magic Energy being transferred between us, right?!"
Oberon kicks in the door and walks into the town hall, a large open room with a small stage at the far end.
Walking into the room Oberon carefully observes the purple fog, not seeing any movement in it that could lead to the source.
'So it's stagnant after being released, and acts as a big wire that sends Magic Energy back to her, instead of the fog itself having to circulate through her,' Oberon thinks as he walks to the middle of the room.
'That really punches a hole in my plan. I was hoping she'd be in here since this is the middle of the town and the gas formed a circle, but she could have just as easily started it here and then moved, waiting until the soldiers presented a gap in the perimeter to run away.'
As Oberon is pacing back and forth, in the rafters above a woman is crochet, holding a sword in her hand.
Her clothes are standard adventuring gear, long pants, boots, and a t-shirt, with a Guild Emblem on her jugular.
However, her caucasian skin had purple spots all over it, glowing dimly.
Below her she sees Oberon pacing back and forth, staring at him with confusion and curiosity, 'My Magic really isn't working on him, that's impossible. Once it touched his skin his Magic Energy should have been transferred to me…he's dangerous.'
Observing him for a few more moments, she prepares to drop onto him.
As he turns away from her she leaps forward, raising the blade high above and bringing it down directly onto his head.
'I guess he was just co—' her thoughts halt as the sword shatters against his hair, not even cutting a single strand.
"Argh!" she leaps back, feeling aching pain in her wrists as she holds the broken hilt.
Oberon turns around as pieces of her blade clatter to the floor before disappearing along with the shattered hilt in a golden flash of light.
"What the hell are you?"
"I'm Oberon, please surrender and stop hurting these people," he asks.
Not bothering to answer, the woman quickly throws four daggers directly at his chest, only for him to stop them with a thought, holding them in place between them.
'Oberon, King of the Fairies, Gravity, Light, Cosmic…dangerous,' the woman thinks as she reaches to the side and Requips a black and red sword into his hand.
"Fire Shot!" she yells while aiming the sword at him.
From the tip of the blade, a small bead of concentrated Fire Magic is fired at Oberon, only for him to rush forward and grab it, crushing it in his hand until he arrives directly in front of her.
"No!" she screams while leaping backward, only for him to reach her and open his hand facing her, causing the explosion of Fire Magic to slam into her.
The explosion blows her out of the town hall and into the dirt street.
She tumbles in the dirt and barely stops herself, down on one knee as she looks up, just in time to see him slamming down into her.
Seeing his stomp coming she Requips a steel staff into her hand and swings it at him.
As her weapon is about to make contact, Oberon adjusts in the air, surprising her as he flips around her and grabs her by the back of her shoulders.
Suddenly she feels her weight completely gone as he lifts her into the air and slams her back into the dirt, making her many times heavier on the way down.
"AHHHH!" she screams, feeling two of her ribs shatter.
"Please sur—"
His words are cut off as she lunges upward from the floor and thrusts a dagger directly at his eyeball.
From her perspective, it seems as if the blade hit his eye but couldn't pierce it, and Oberon was thankful that his Cosmic Armor was beyond her capabilities.
But he still instinctively leaps backward, putting some distance between them and getting the blade away from her eye.
'I need to get out of here,' The woman gets up and takes a fighting stance, only to wince and hold her side as pain flows through her body. 'Or not…'
Focusing her Magic Energy she Requips yet again. This time after a few seconds she summons a jet-black longsword into her hand.
'This has the highest slashing Enchantment of any sword I own, I'll pierce his heart then make a run for it before this gets any worse,' she decides.
"What, scared?" she asks, trying to make him charge her.
Instead, Oberon tilts his head, studying her, "You're too dangerous to fight up close," he says.
"Wh—" he suddenly pointed toward her and fired a concussive beam of light, knocking the wind out of her and grinding her along the dirt road for a dozen meters. "----FUCK!"
The woman lay in the trench with her body carved out for a moment, before trying to get up, however, as soon as she sat up her body slammed back into the dirt.
'Can't…move…' she tried to lift her arms, her legs, anything, but all her muscles and joints strained and ached, and an all-encompassing pain wracked her body as she struggled against immense gravity.
Hearing footsteps approaching she turns her head, just enough to see Oberon walking up to her with a glowing golden fist.
"Sorry about this, I really do wish you had just surrendered," Oberon says before quickly kneeling beside her and punching her in the face, knocking her out.
As she's knocked out her weapons disappear in a golden flash, and the purple fog quickly fades away.
"I seriously need to learn Requip, and she was so fast with that Magic, even faster than Master Makarov, awesome," Oberon mutters as he makes the woman float ahead of him while walking back to the soldiers.
---3 Hours Later…
Standing at the train station ticket booth, Oberon is looking at the list of prices while eating a sandwich.
After helping the soldiers secure their new prisoner, he flew north for an hour to the nearest town with a train station and spent some time looking around, searching for anything interesting. He's now ready to begin the long trip back to Magnolia.
'It costs a lot more, but it'll let me continue studying while on the train, and avoid annoying people trying to talk to me,' Oberon thinks. 'And it's not like that money will make much of a difference in buying books, and I've got a lot saved.'
Oberon glances at the ticket booth attendant for a moment before looking back at the prices.
'Yeah, I should just try it once, only to see if it's worth the money. And if I don't like it, I'll just go back to buying regular tickets.'
Oberon makes up his mind and walks over to the ticket booth, "Hi, I'd like one first-class cabin to Magnolia please…"
Less than an hour later, walking through the first-class train car.
Oberon sees people in well-crafted and tailored suits, as well as some women wearing fancy jewelry, and he feels entirely out of place among them, even while holding the ticket in his hands and looking for his cabin.
'Ahh, here it is,' Oberon opened the door to see a private cabin with two cushioned seats, a small table opposite the door between them with a bottle of champagne and some glasses, along with a bucket of ice, and a menu.
Stepping inside he closes the door behind him and feels the cushion on the seat, "This is better than my bed," he mutters while looking around, noticing the curtains on all the windows.
"I can get so much studying done in here, especially since I'll be on this thing for almost fourteen hours," he says while taking a seat and getting comfortable.
Then with a wave of his hand all the curtains close to give him some privacy as he withdraws some of his books.
"I don't think I'm ever going back to regular train rides…" he says while putting up his feet and getting comfortable for the long ride ahead.
