CHAPTER START---

---September 19th, X770, 11AM…

"Oh wow," Oberon mutters as he looks out the train window as they roll into the station.

This train station was quite small, allowing him to see the entire little mining village it overlooked, a village not much different from where he grew up.

But the main difference, aside from this one being at the base of a mountain, was the gathering of tents in front of the main mine.

Oberon quickly gets out of the train, along with a dozen other Guild Wizards who are responding to this Emergency SOS Job, and rushes over to the mining area.

As he walks through the village he sees distraught people, some of which look at the newcomer Wizards with sadness, others who find hope as new potential saviors arrive.

Oberon cast those thoughts to the back of his mind immediately, not wanting to be distracted during whatever comes next.

Arriving at the mining area he sees Macao waving at him, accompanied by Wakaba and Reedus, a tall and slender man with brown hair, holding a paintbrush in his hand as he speaks to them.

Oberon quickly arrives to join his three Fairy Tail Wizards at the gathering of tents.

"Ok, Master Makarov told me to come here, now can someone tell me what's going on?" Oberon asks. "And what's with all these people, I've never seen these many Wizards from different Guilds in one place, or so many Royal Soldiers either…" he says while looking around cautiously.

"We'll show you," Reedus says as he begins leading them toward the mine.

They stop almost 100ft -30m- from the entrance, which is on a small incline above the ground level.

The entire area was cracked and broken, as if an earthquake was focused only on the area above the mine.

There were Royal Soldiers standing guard in front of a wooden barrier, preventing anyone from walking onto the unstable ground, and Oberon could see groups of Wizards discussing the situation amongst their Guildmates.

"Did one of the explosive Lacrima they use for mining go off?"

"Good guess, but now," Reedus says. "The mayor is saying it was some kind of strange earthquake."

"But the nearby towns don't recall feeling anything of the sort," Macao says. "So some people are suspecting fowl play here, maybe cutting corners by buying unregulated Explosive Lacrima or—"

"That's not relevant right now," Wakaba cuts him off. "What is important is that there are seventeen people trapped under there, and they've been in there for almost thirty hours already."

"So that's what 'Emergency SOS Job' means," Oberon says.

Wakaba nods, "Yeah, and the perfect guy for this kind of thing is two countries away up north, so unless we've got two months to wait for Jura to get back, you're the best bet."

Oberon turns to look at the area above the collapsed section of the mine, "Emergency Request Jobs, is there anything else I need to know?"

"Not really, the Magic Council gets wind of a situation that needs an immediate response, usually with lives at risk in the moment, and then everyone rushes to help," Macao says. "But honestly, a lot of these guys aren't here out of the goodness of their hearts, these are one of the few types of Jobs that the entire country can't help but know about since reporters know exactly where to aim their Kameras to get a good scoop."

Oberon sighs, "That's going to be annoying, I'm not doing any interviews after this."

"Tell me when you're ready and I'll call the Mayor over," Wakaba says.

"I'm ready, I want to get this done and be on the next train out of here, I was on my way to a Job when Master Makarov called about this."

Wakaba rushes off into the sea of tents to call the Mayor.

"So, what kind of Job were you heading to?" Reedus asks. "Anything scenic?"

"Mountain bandits," Oberon shrugs. "I was hoping to check out the Magic Shops in Crocus on the way back, that's what I'm really excited about."

"Well I'm glad to hear that you're confident in resolving this crisis," a tired voice draws the Fairy Tail Wizards's attention to an older gentleman wearing a simple suit with sunken cheeks and bags under his eyes.

"Mr. Mayor, Fairy Tail is here to help," Macao says. "This is Oberon."

"Oberon…" the Mayor looks at the boy, seeing a rather plain-looking young man with caucasian skin, brown eyes, and a head of void black hair with singular strands of white.

Like the night sky was trapped in his hair.

It also didn't help that Oberon was wearing his regular Job outfit, which is his blue Jacket, with the hood down, a matching t-shirt, and a pair of black pants and matching boots.

"I came as soon as I heard about this, sir," Oberon says.

"Well, I certainly do hope you are able to save the men trapped beneath all that material, young man," the Mayor says. "However, if you feel that this is too much, there is no shame in walking away. One wrong move and those men could be crushed, and I don't want anyone to have that on their conscience."

Oberon smiles at the man, not a cocky smile, but a warm smile that told him everything would be alright.

"Don't worry, I'll get them out of there."

"In that case, I can use my Telepathy Magic to talk to them, so what should I tell them?"

"Hmm," Oberon thinks about it for a moment. "Tell them to hold onto the ground, try to hold onto it as hard as they can, to tie themselves to it if they can, and don't let go until they can see the light of the sky above."

"Understood," the Mayor says as he closes his eyes and focuses his Magic Energy, sending the men Oberon's message before walking off to signal the Royal Soldiers to make some space.

"You ready?" Macao asks.

Oberon shrugs, "My Magic was made for this, flipping gravity is as easy as snapping my fingers, I'll just have to focus on doing it slowly so they don't instantly fall upwards, so this could take a while."

After a few minutes, the Fairy Tail Wizards see the Royal Soldiers back away and the Mayor raises a finger to the side of his head, then makes a confused face while staring at Oberon.

Seeing this Oberon chuckles and then nods toward Macao, who the Mayor then sends his telepathic message to.

"He says you can start now," Macao says. "You know playing messenger is really no fun, sure you can't solve that whole 'Invasive Magic' thing?"

"Why would I want people in my head?" Oberon says, shaking his head as he crouches down slightly and leaps high into the air.

Seeing this, the Mayor and everyone in the crowd instinctively hold their breaths as he's seemingly about to slam down onto the unstable ground.

"What's he doing?!" the Mayor screams as he runs toward the barrier, only for the Royal Soldiers to stop him from going any farther.

As Oberon is falling toward the unstable ground, just a few meters above the surface, he suddenly stops.

Causing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief, and getting the reporters trigger-happy with their Kameras.

"Yeah, he's kind of a little jerk," Macao mutters to Reedus and Wakaba, and both of them nod in agreement.

"At least he enjoys being born different rather than feeling bad about it," Wakaba says as more and more of the crowd approach the barrier to get a better view.

After a minute of tense silence, Oberon finally moves.

Taking a standing position in the air he raises both his hands, palms upward as if lifting the air.

And all around him, the entire 100ft -30m- wide area of unsteady earth and rock begins to fall upward.

Slowly, crawling toward the sky, an immense weight rises before their very eyes, slowly casting a shadow upon them all.

The crowd of nearly one hundred people stands with their mouths agape.

"This…is a miracle," the Mayor says as he looks up in amazement. "The Telekinesis Magic users said it was impossible, controlling thousands of objects at once, but…"

"He's not using Telekinesis," Macao says, smiling proudly as everyone listens in. "He's using Gravity Magic, and he's really damn good at it."

As nearly 200ft -60m- of earth rises from the surface, towering above everyone, a low growling rises above the sounds of grinding rock and dirt.

All the spectators back away, aside from the Fairy Tail Wizards, who instead ready their Magics.

Macao creates a purple flame in his hand, Reedus takes out a notepad and prepares to paint and animate whatever he may need, and Wakaba creates a small fist Smoke Construct.

Then they see it, attached to a large chunk of dirt, a mole creature with dark brown fur and massive claws, screeching as the sunlight bothers its eyes.

The length of a train car and a clearly healthy appetite, judging by its portly proportions, the sight of it causes the spectators to back away even more as the Royal Soldiers raise their spears.

The other Wizards prepare to attack, only for Wakaba to stop them.

"Hold your fire!" he yells. "If we hit the things he's moving it could break his concentration!"

"Are you crazy?!" one of the soldiers yells as the Giant Mole creature crawls along the slowly rising dirt toward Oberon, slowly moving and inspecting the nearest foreign entity to it. "If it kills him then everything falls down!"

"I know that, but it's not easy to make Oberon lose his focus," Macao says, but none of them take their eyes off the creature as it gets closer to Oberon.

"He's not moving," Reedus whispers, already painted a net launcher, ready to use his Magic and bring it off the page and into reality.

"He'll be fine," Macao says as he walks closer to the barrier, watching the creature slowly close in, crawling across the moving rocks. "You've got this, right, Oberon?!"

"Just give me a moment," Oberon says as the creature gets even closer.

As it gets within a few meters Macao raises his hand and condenses the purple fireball into a bullet, ready to shoot the creature, but unsure if Oberon's Magic will disrupt his aim.

'Radiance Formula: Light Shot!'

Oberon suddenly opens his mouth and a near-instant beam of thin light is shot from his mouth through the creature's skull, leaving its corpse to float upward with the other rubble.

Macao breathes a sigh of relief and dispels his Magic, "Damn it kid, did you have to scare us like that?!"

"It's hard to focus on slowly moving the rocks and aim a long-ranged Light Magic attack, so yes, I did!" Oberon says a bit too gleefully for Macao's liking.

"Two Magics at once?" the Mayor asks, causing a wave of murmurs to flow through the crowd.

Reedus, Macao, and Wakaba share uneasy looks between each other. None of them knew exactly what Oberon would be comfortable with sharing, so they decided to stay silent.

"Hey, can you hear us!" they suddenly hear a chorus of yelling from down in the newly made hole.

The crowd immediately gets excited at hearing the trapped miners.

As Oberon hears this he breathes a sigh of relief, and with a wave of his hand, he brings the men to fall upward until they are all hovering beside him.

The men look amazed, exhausted, and terrified–all at once.

"Is there anyone else in there, or someone that I missed?"

The men look at each other and do a quick headcount, "No, this is everyone."

"Finally," Oberon says as he brings them all, and himself, down toward the small wooden barrier. "This was getting annoying."

As he releases the men for the Royal Soldiers to tend to, he raises his right hand and closes his fist.

And behind him, all the rubble is immediately crushed into a massive ball of dirt and earth before he drops it down into the hole.

"That's new," Macao says as Oberon ignores everyone else, including the people trying to thank him, and walks over to his Guild mates.

"So can I leave now?" Oberon asks.

"You really should talk to the reporters," Macao says. "I mean, attention is important if you want to get the more high-level Jobs, and they clearly want yours right now."

Oberon looks at the crowd to see everyone staring at him, "I'm really not in the mood for this right now, can't you handle it for me?"

"But, they saw you cast two different types of Magic at once, so people will want to ask you some questions."

"Just tell them the absolute basics, nothing more," Oberon says as he begins floating through the air. "Thanks for this, now I need to get to the next town and hopefully catch that train that brought me in, or I'll be late for my Job!"

Before they can respond Oberon flies off, following the train tracks to the next town, leaving them to deal with the reporters and soldiers.

"He's buying me a bottle when we get back," Macao mutters, earring a nod from his friends.
