Chapter 19 - Kuta Spellblade 01

There was a noise that was getting louder and louder until...WHAM!!

"Ms. Spellblade, would you care to rejoin us in the realm of consciousness once? Seriously, I do not know how that guardian of yours is able to handle you as your general professor," the general mana professor said with a sigh.

They turned around, unaware that the student they had just given a talking to had her face down on the long academic bench desk.

"Trying to get in trouble doing that...again?" her deskmate asked.

"Do what?" the girl called Spellblade asked.

"Freak out the professor with your mana glare, what else?" they replied.

"If they can not handle one from me, then why are they a professor here?" the Spellblade replied.

"You know yours is different though," the deskmate replied.

The professor continued their class, noticing the two whispering while they did so. However, did not say anything cause they were not trying to be suggested to the Spellblade's mana glare right now. They had indeed heard about how it affected one differently than a normal mana glare. They were not trying to find out firsthand what the difference was, as they would rather suffer the cost of telling them to talk like that in their class than the rumored alternative.

The Spellblade girl then managed to lift her body up off the desk without the use of her arms, which were supposed to support her chin. Though she hit the desk when she dozed off, and they remained as they were. Doing so until she lifted her body to where her arms were, causing them to lock back into place once more. Moving them a bit to make sure the connection was good again.

"It always amazes me how normal and simple you make that seem," her deskmate said.

"Huh!? Why wouldn't it be normal? This is how my arms work after all," Spellblade said.

"The fact that your arms are your wand in the first place is abnormal. Thus, naturally, everything you do with them is as well," her deskmate added.

"I can not help that, though, as my wand is my arms and my arms are my wand. I can not change that," she replied.

The two then fully focused on their general mana class once more after that last exchange.

The one being called Spellblade was Kuta. Formerly known as Kuta 'Spellblade' Sabre, she was removed from the Sabre family, which did not erase her existence; they merely replaced her with someone who could play the role much better and more faithfully than she could. She could not complain or protest, not just because of her former family's standing, but the fact that she no longer even looked like her original self. Her replacement looked the part now more than she could. So she just became Kuta until she was found by her current guardian and took what was once merely a title and made that her last name instead. Thus, she was now Kuta Spellblade.

She was leaving the room when she held stopped her deskmate from moving forward with one hand and blocked a magical shot with the other. It was easy for her to tell where the shot had come from and who had cast it.

"Great... looks like we are getting another general mana professor soon," one student whispered.

"They broke one of the unwritten rules of this academy," another one whispered.

The general mana professor was not unaware of what they just unleashed on themselves by doing that. Kuta Spellblade and her deskmate were part of a unique class made up of unique mages that all use mana in different ways to produce their own magic. As with anything, and everything could be a want, thus there was no uniform look to how or what a wand could be. What one used it for in gathering mana to produce magic, however, was thought. It was every uniform in the sense that what one's wand was was how they used mana to cast magic as a mage. Kuta's guardian was a mage that had managed to gather those that had both an unusually unique wand and equally unusual manner of using mana as well.

They were not always seen in the most positive of light because of how different they were, with Kuta being one of the most unique, as she was a mage that fought more like a master weapon user than a mage. Others were just as strange, but not to Kuta's degree. Though that comes back to the unwritten rule about messing with anyone from Kuta's class. The professor and staff members had to answer to the professor of Kuta's class, which was given the name Gray Mages. Thus, anyone who messed with a Gray Mage had to deal with him. While any student who messed with one had to deal with the others, and the worst one to for a student to have to deal with was Kuta. The worst thing to do was a professor or staff member that pissed off a Gray Mage while Kuta was around to see it. That just meant the reaction would be doubled, as no rules would be broken, as they do things within the Academy's rules.

In the hallway leading towards their classroom...

"Is the professor not coming back today?" Kuta's deskmate asked.

"Always going off whenever they hear a rumor about another unique mana user," Kuta said.

"Must be tough having to live with him," they asked.

"You do not know the half of it, as who do you think keeps our place clean most of the time?" Kuta sighed.

"That would be me...at least originally, as you barely did anything when I first brought you here," their general professor and Kuta's guardian said.

"That was a while ago, and I was a different person basically back then," Kuta said, shocked, as they always managed to sneak up on their students like this.

"Anyway, managed to find someone really interesting this time. Probably the most interesting mage I found since you, Kuta," they said.

The first gray mage was the professor themselves, while the second was Kuta. Since then, they had had a lot of mana users, all unique and varying in what they did differently. Though, to learn that this new addition was supposedly as rare a find as her caught her interest.
