Chapter 25 - 25

I went to school, again. Even if the purpose of going to school, namely messing up with the main cast, was already achieved, I still decided to keep going. I swear I heard a voice distinctly similar to my mom in my dreams. I could still remember it.

' FAILURE!

FAILURE

You are just a faliure.

Do you want to end up a useless bum?

You think I spent nine months to give birth to a homeless man who sleeps under a bridge?...'

Sheesh, gave goosebumps when I woke up. School was boring as It always was. But I prevailed. I didn't want my mom to scream across the multiverse again. That would be a nightmare.

After school, I checked back into the hotel. I had left Rue in the room, letting her recover from her wounds. So I wanted to see if she was up for some hunting. Thankfully she was.

"Hello"

When I opened the door, I found Jenny standing there.I decided to act suprised, even though I knew she was there from an hour ago.

"Hi Jenny, Good evening."

"Good evening Ken." She greeted back. "Boss wanted to know what you'll be having for dinner tonight." She said as she took her pen from the top of her ear.

"You didn't have to come all the way up here for that. You know I don't like special treatment. Besides tonight I'm going out for dinner. I got someone to impress afterall."

Just then Rue walked out all dolled up. You know, cleaned her face and body from the blood, and not looking like a horror movie survivor.

"Right!" Jenny looked at her for a moment, and I felt something from her. Something that tasted sour. Jealousy. It tasted like tamarind, or maybe salted lime slices with a little pepper. Not a bad taste. Could be better with a little more salt.

"And this is?"

"This is the lady of the night." I replied, ignoring the hunger stroked by the sour smell. "Rue meet Jenny . Jenny, Rue"

"A pleasure" Jenny replied, though her expression said different. She turned towards me again.

"Will she be leaving after tonight or is she going to be here in the foreseeable future? "

"She'll be here for some time, and don't worry. I read the rules about guests. I'll make the installment by tomorrow."

"Hmm.."

She looked between us before leaving. One of these days, I might just kill her. She was too nosey for her own good. I didn't even consider taking her in. Like please, that thing? The lump of human flesh who couldn't even talk straight? Yuck.

"I thought you'd like the girl." Artalis commented as I closed the door. "She was pretty."

"I don't know what you think about me, but even I have standards." Rue followed behind me without making a noise. But I could make out her emotions. In midst of all that burning hatred, there was a small doubt.

I pointed at my temple as I explained. "Don't worry, I'm not insane. Just talking to the other resident in my head."

We walked out of the hotel and boarded our transportation. A used Toyota Tacoma pickup with a somewhat faded paint job. Call me old fashioned, but I like when my vehicle has a good solid metal body. I've been wanting to get the engine replaced with a hybrid, but hybrid stuff is still new here. So I'll have to wait for some time to get a hybrid engine as reliable as my gas drinker.

I got in, and waited for Rue to get into shot gun, but she was already in the back. This was why I wanted to keep the werewolf girl. Even broken, destroyed, hurt she doesn't change. She had the same stubbornness, will mental strength as always. Unlike a certain blond waitress who couldn't even talk straight.

'I'm gonna pop some tags...only got twenty dollars in my pocket..'

I hummed along to the radio as we drove out of town. We couldn't hunt in the forest here. Not yet. Especially not now when flocks of wolves patrolled the area.
