Even though the merchant who was guiding Jaun and Ann was quite resourceful, he was not powerful or influential enough to get access to a VIP room. So both of the villains needed to participate in the auction from the general sitting area where they were in the open.
Jaun actually did not mind it. The only thing that the VIP rooms provided was more comfort and privacy.
But he did not really care about comfort and as he was not planning to buy anything too rare, privacy was also not an issue. So he was actually perfectly fine with being in the general area.
As for Ann, she was fond of getting special treatment. But as she needed to be careful about not attracting too much attention, she decided to hold back a little.
