He opened the bag on the table. Inside was a cake he had just bought for Anne Sutton nearby.
Anne Sutton watched this unfold and asked, "You bought me something to eat, too?"
Ian said, "I wanted to save it for you!"
Anne Sutton took a bite. "Thank you, Ian."
With wide eyes, Ian looked at her and asked, "Mommy, is it good?"
Anne Sutton nodded.
Nathan Fawcett sat to one side, silent.
Anne Sutton glanced at him and asked, "Why are you here?"
She recalled his mother coming to see her and wondered if Nathan Fawcett knew about it.
Anne was still suspicious when she heard Nathan Fawcett say, "My mom told me to come find you."
At Nathan Fawcett's words, the corner of Anne's mouth twitched. "What, she sent you to take me back to the Linden family?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. "I thought you wouldn't refuse. I didn't expect you to turn her down."
