Anne Sutton glanced at Sean Sutton. "Let's see how long you can hide this."
With that, she turned and left.
Her original plan was to speak with her father and then tell Sharon, but she just wasn't in the mood anymore.

When Nathan Fawcett came home that evening, he saw Anne Sutton sitting alone by the window.
The living room was hot, yet she was sitting on the sofa without having taken off her coat.
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "What are you thinking about? Aren't you hot?"
Anne Sutton looked up at him. "You're home from work?"
Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Yeah. Where's Ian?"
"I don't know." Anne only remembered Ian now that Nathan had mentioned him.
"You don't know?" Nathan Fawcett gave her a meaningful look, then went upstairs to check on Ian. He found the boy lying in bed. Ian hadn't taken his afternoon medicine, so his cold had worsened again.
