Anne Sutton looked over and saw him staring at her, lost in thought. "You don't want it?" she asked. "Should I give it all to Ian, then?"
Ian's eyes were always bigger than his stomach. Hearing Anne Sutton's words, he clapped his hands in delight. "Really? Then I won't be polite!"
It was exactly what he wanted.
Nathan Fawcett shot him a glare and quickly pulled his own bowl closer. "In your dreams!"
'Trying to eat my portion, too? That's not happening.'
Anne Sutton sat to the side, watching the two of them, the corners of her mouth turning up in a smile.
After they finished their meal, Nathan Fawcett had some things to attend to, so Anne Sutton went to help Ian with his bath and then put him to bed.
The two of them were lying in bed. Anne Sutton was telling Ian a story, and he lay beside her, watching her with wide eyes.
As Anne Sutton was deep in the story, he suddenly lifted his head and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Mommy, I love you."
