"What else could it be?" Mrs. Sutton said. "What could possibly be more important than you? You're pregnant, and he's still mixed up with another woman. That woman has a lot of nerve, too. She knew we were coming to see you today, but she still came looking for him. She clearly has no respect for you. From the looks of it, he's even worse than Charles Prescott. At least Charles doesn't have such a bad temper."
Seeing her mother actually start praising Charles Prescott, Anne Sutton said, "What's so great about Charles Prescott? I don't care how Nathan Fawcett is. I have a child now! You saw Chairman Fawcett's attitude. Before, he would have never been so polite to us. The only reason he's so courteous now is because of the baby, isn't it?"
She was carrying Nathan Fawcett's child. She didn't mind how he treated her now. Her relationship with this man was supposed to be nothing more than a partnership.
This thought made Anne Sutton feel much better.
