The father began to wonder whether he should tell his son who the other man truly was. His child seemed to like Lawrence very much.
That was not necessarily a bad thing. But if his son continued insisting on following Lawrence everywhere, there was no doubt he would eventually get himself killed.
While the father struggled with his thoughts, the child continued talking excitedly about how interesting the soldiers outside were, how delicious the food tasted, and the different dishes his father had cooked for him.
Lawrence listened quietly as the boy described each meal in detail.
Even after they finished eating and Lawrence stood to check their location, the child would quickly scramble to his feet and follow him like a small shadow.
This continued until they reached the city gates.
Lawrence ushered the father and son to hide with him beneath the storage cellar located under the dining table where they had eaten earlier.
