The moment Jojo lifted his hand toward the doorbell, the universe decided patience was overrated.
"...."
The front door vanished.
Alice hit him like a guided missile, arms wrapping around his neck as her momentum carried them both a step back.
Her grin was blinding, electric, unstoppable.
-Grin
"YOU'RE BACK,"
She announced between rapid, enthusiastic kisses, each one landing somewhere different like she was afraid he might evaporate if she stopped.
"You took so long. Again. I missed you. A lot."
Jojo laughed, the sound warm and helpless as he steadied them both.
"Hi to you too, Alice."
He slipped an arm around her waist, grounding her bouncing energy, the other hand brushing her hair back.
"I missed you. See? Still solid. Not a ghost."
That was when the temperature dropped.
"...."
"...."
"...."
A familiar, controlled voice cut through the moment.
"So this is how long you lasted."
Rosalie stood a few steps away, arms folded, posture perfect, expression carved from polished irritation.
"We agreed we'd stay united. We were supposed to punish him."
Alice glanced over her shoulder, entirely unapologetic, tongue peeking out as she laughed.
-Hehe
"I tried. I really did. But then his smell hit me and my self-control just… left."
She shrugged.
"Sorry."
Rosalie huffed, chin lifting.
"Unbelievable."
Jojo didn't give her time to build another wall.
He reached out, caught Rosalie gently by the arms, and pulled her into him without hesitation.
"...."
The surprise lasted exactly half a heartbeat before she kissed him back hard, like she'd been storing every sharp word for this moment.
"You!!!,"
She muttered against his lips, fingers gripping his jacket,
"you don't call, you don't text—"
-Kiss!!!
"—you think you can just walk back in—"
Kiss, fiercer this time.
"—and I won't be angry?"
Jojo smiled into the kiss, completely unrepentant.
"I never said that."
Rosalie made a frustrated sound that might've been a growl and kissed him again anyway, all fire and emotion she pretended she didn't have.
When she finally pulled back, she was still holding him, still scowling.
"…You're lucky," she said tightly.
Alice beamed at both of them, clapping her hands once.
"See? Reunion success. I knew this was how it'd go."
From somewhere deeper in the house, Emmett's voice echoed faintly, amused and loud.
"Called it."
Jojo glanced between the two women, one glowing, the other simmering, and let out a soft laugh.
-Haha
"...."
Jojo didn't even bother freeing himself.
With Alice tucked against one side and Rosalie firmly anchored on the other, he lifted his head and smiled toward the staircase.
"Good to see you still break floors with your footsteps, Emmett."
Emmett laughed, broad and booming.
-Haha!!!
"Man vanishes for months and comes back collecting girlfriends like limited editions."
Before Jojo could reply, Jess came down the stairs, leaned up on her toes, and kissed Emmett with practiced ease.
"Ignore him,"
She said warmly, then turned to Jojo.
"Welcome back. You look… intact. That's a good sign."
"One of my better returns," Jojo replied.
The house slowly filled the way it always did.
Carlisle and Esme entered together, calm and steady as gravity.
Jasper followed with Edith close beside him, her presence quiet but sharp, eyes already cataloging everyone's mood.
Esme pressed a glass into Jojo's hand.
"Fresh. You always liked this one."
Jojo took a sip and hummed appreciatively.
"Still undefeated."
They settled into the living room, the couch creaking slightly under the familiar weight of too many immortals pretending not to be crowded.
Jojo sat right where he belonged, Alice leaning against his shoulder, Rosalie's arm resting possessively across his waist.
For a while, it was easy.
Jokes. Travel stories.
Alice teasing him about bringing gifts late and Rosalie correcting her with pointed precision.
Emmett exaggerating everything.
Jess rolling her eyes.
Jasper quietly monitoring emotional spikes like a living barometer.
Then Carlisle folded his hands, expression shifting from host to patriarch.
"The Volturi," he said calmly.
The word landed like a stone dropped into still water.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Jojo didn't move, but his smile faded just enough to show he was listening.
"They've been… restless," Carlisle continued.
"More patrols. More observers passing through Forks than usual. They haven't crossed a line yet, but they're circling."
Edith nodded once.
-Nod
"They smell disruption. Not blood. Not war. Something worse."
"Change," Jasper added quietly.
Rosalie's jaw tightened. Alice straightened slightly.
"They haven't fed here," Carlisle went on.
"Not yet. But that restraint worries me more than if they had. It means they're waiting. Watching."
Jojo took another sip, unhurried.
"...."
Emmett frowned hearing his father's words.
"So what's different this time?"
Jojo finally leaned back, one arm draped behind Alice, the other resting over Rosalie's hand.
Carlisle voice was light, but there was iron underneath it.
"This time," he said, "they're not hunting a big problem."
He glanced around the room, meeting each pair of eyes in turn.
"They're wondering what are we hiding."
Silence followed. Not fear.
Not surprise.
Just the kind of quiet that comes when everyone understands the shape of the storm before it breaks.
Esme reached out, touching his arm gently.
"You're family here."
Jojo smiled at her, genuine.
"I know."
Carlisle nodded once, resolute.
"Then we'll be ready."
Alice's lips curved into a sharp little grin.
-Grin
"I've already seen a few futures where they regret being curious."
Rosalie squeezed Jojo's hand, eyes bright with challenge.
"Let them come."
Jojo chuckled softly, finishing his drink.
"Careful," he said. "If they decide to have dinner in Forks…"
His eyes glinted.
"…they might choke on the menu."
The room eased out of its defensive posture almost naturally, like a pack lowering its hackles once the perimeter felt secure again.
Jojo glanced around, then asked casually,
"By the way… has Bella contacted any of you lately?"
The reaction was immediate and unanimous.
Heads shook.
Even Alice's usual spark dimmed a notch.
"No," Alice said, quieter now. "Nothing directly."
Jojo's eyes flicked to her.
"But?"
She exhaled, fingers lacing together.
"She's close. Very close. The timeline's… tight."
That got everyone's attention.
"How close?"
Rosalie asked, already halfway into problem-solving mode.
Alice swallowed hearing her sister's question.
"Soon. Days, maybe less."
Jojo leaned back, staring at the ceiling for a second, thoughts clicking into place.
'So it's that point already.'
He straightened and looked at Carlisle.
"Then don't wait for them to call."
Carlisle tilted his head slightly.
"You're suggesting—"
"I'm deciding," Jojo said mildly.
"Edward brings Bella here. Now. I'm staying in Forks until the baby's born. Safely."
The word carried weight.
Not a hope. Not a suggestion. A promise.
Esme's face softened instantly.
"That would mean a lot to her."
"And to Charlie," Jojo added. "He's worried. Hasn't heard from her in months."
Carlisle nodded after a brief moment of thought.
-Nod
"Edward's been… difficult to reach. They're moving constantly."
"Then we don't contact Edward directly," Jojo replied. "We contact the people who know how to find him."
Jasper's gaze sharpened.
"Your network."
Jojo smiled faintly.
"Someone always knows how to track a vampire in hiding."
Alice's lips curved, half relief, half mischief.
"I like this future better."
Rosalie crossed her arms, chin lifting.
"Good. If she's giving birth, she shouldn't be doing it alone. Or on the run."
Emmett cracked his knuckles.
-Crack -Crack
"And if anyone shows up uninvited?"
Jojo finally grinned, slow and dangerous.
-Grin
"Then Forks gets very memorable."
Carlisle stood. "I'll start making calls tonight. If word reaches Edward, he'll come."
Jojo nodded once.
"Make sure he understands this isn't a request."
Esme touched Jojo's shoulder gently.
"Thank you. For this."
The night swallowed the road as they left the Cullen house behind.
Jojo swung onto his bike, the engine purring low and steady.
Alice tried to hop on behind him out of pure instinct, already grinning, but Rosalie caught her by the wrist and yanked her back toward Emmett's car.
"Nope. Absolutely not,"
Rosalie said, opening the door.
"You'll freeze back there, and I'm not scraping you off the highway."
Alice stuck her tongue out.
"You're just jealous of the bike. When did we get cold?"
"I'm jealous of surviving,"
Rosalie shot back, shoving her into the passenger seat.
Jojo laughed, helmet already on.
-Haha
"Behave, both of you. I'll be right behind."
Jojo's place welcomed them like it had been holding its breath.
The door shut with a solid click, muting the world outside.
The lights stayed low, the room warm, familiar.
The kind of quiet that only exists after danger has passed and the night finally loosens its grip.
Alice kicked off her shoes first, immediately drifting closer, fingers already finding Jojo's sleeve like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Rosalie followed more slowly, watching him with that sharp, unreadable gaze that always softened only when she thought no one noticed.
Jojo didn't rush either of them.
He set his jacket aside, then reached out, pulling them both in.
One arm around Alice's waist, the other resting at Rosalie's back.
Grounding. Steady. Intentional.
"You're safe,"
He murmured, voice low, meant just for them.
Alice exhaled like she'd been holding it all evening, resting her forehead against his chest.
Rosalie leaned in next, her hand curling into his shirt, stubborn tension finally easing from her shoulders.
Jojo brushed Alice's hair back gently, then pressed a slow kiss to Rosalie's temple.
Not hurried. Not demanding.
Just reassurance, poured into touch.
The door to the bedroom closed softly behind them.
Inside, the world narrowed to warmth, shared breath, and the quiet understanding that tonight wasn't about urgency.
It was about closeness. About reminding each other they were here, together, after everything.
The lights dimmed further.
And the rest of the night was theirs.
Meanwhile...
The forest beyond Forks breathed differently that night.
Five figures slipped between the trees, boots never snapping a twig, bodies wrapped in matte-black gear designed to swallow moonlight.
Their movements were practiced, economical.
Hunters who had done this too many times to count.
At the invisible border where Forks truly began, they stopped as one.
The man at the front raised a clenched fist.
The others froze mid-step, weapons held low but ready.
He reached into his pack and drew out a folded photograph, its edges worn from being handled far too often.
Bella Swan. Edward Cullen.
The picture caught the faint glow filtering through the canopy.
"...."
The leader's jaw tightened. Even behind the mask, the intent rolled off him like heat from a blade just pulled from fire.
"These two," he said quietly, voice rough with restraint.
"Their family were here."
The men around him leaned in just enough to see.
One of them let out a slow, controlled breath.
"It cost millions to trace the trail this far," another muttered.
"Shell companies. Dead leads. Entire families erased."
"And we finally found them," the leader replied.
He folded the photo once more and slid it back into his bag like a promise waiting to be kept.
"Be careful," he continued.
"Forks isn't clean ground. Two families are entrenched here. Old money. Old secrets. Fast killers."
One of the men shifted his grip on a weapon.
"Volturi?"
The leader shook his head.
"No. This isn't their work. And it's not any Cullen offshoot we know."
That made the silence heavier.
"They protected someone,"
The leader went on, voice dropping lower.
"Something that should never have walked away. And because of that…"
He paused, staring into the darkness ahead where Forks slept, unaware.
"…we lost everything."
The forest seemed to listen.
With a subtle hand signal, he pointed forward.
"Move. No mistakes. No noise."
The five shadows dissolved into the trees once more, swallowed by the woods as if they had never been there at all.
