Gu Lanshan lifted her head, just about to ask what was going on, when someone knocked on the window from outside. The liberation army driver lowered the window, and a military region officer stood outside clad in a dark green uniform with a cap. He first saluted and then asked, "Is the injured person lying inside Mr. Sheng?"
"Yes," Gu Lanshan replied.
"We're from the XX Military Region. We received a call from Beijing and came here specifically to pick up Mr. Sheng. Go to the big vehicle in front, which has complete medical facilities, and we'll first examine Mr. Sheng."
Gu Lanshan and her companions hurriedly got out of the car.
That vehicle was like a movable small emergency room, sterile, and Sheng Shi was carried in, but Gu Lanshan was kept outside.
Gu Lanshan paced back and forth outside the vehicle, restless, when a middle-aged man brought over a bottle of milk, handing it to Gu Lanshan. She managed a forced smile and said, "Thank you."
