Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

"BEEP-BEEP-BEEP"

The blaring sound of the alarm clock pierced the air, abruptly ending the peaceful moment of reassurance with Seedot. I let out a sigh, acknowledging that it was time to snap back to reality and face the demands of the day.

Reluctantly, I turned off the alarm, silencing its incessant beeping. As I did so, I spared a final glance at Seedot, offering a smile and a nod of encouragement. Seedot chirped softly in response, understanding that our momentary connection had come to an end as I returned Seedot to my pokeball for a good rest. I had been lucky to meet Seedot at a young age. And I cherished that moment. I knew that newer trainers had a hard time getting their Pokémon to listen to their commands as they were often forced to leave their family and captured. Pokémon were only offered by the League if you were sponsored however, at that point you were probably rich enough to buy one off a League certified breeder.

As I stood in front of the bathroom door, I took a moment to study my reflection in the mirror: The auburn waves of my hair cascaded down, contrasting beautifully against my olive skin. I admired the natural hues that adorned my features, appreciating the uniqueness they brought to my appearance.

My bloodshot eyes, a deep shade of green, stared back at me with a hint of weariness. They told stories of late nights spent studying, training, and pursuing my dreams as a Pokémon trainer. Although tired, they also reflected a sense of determination and resilience that burned within me.

Taking a step back, I assessed my figure—a modest 5'6 height that, for a fleeting moment, made me yearn for more. I couldn't help but wish to grow taller, like my mother, who had always been an inspiring figure in my life. But as I pondered this, I reminded myself that true strength and worth were not solely determined by physical stature. It was the passion, dedication, and inner character that truly defined a person.

As the warm water cascaded from the tap, I felt the soothing rush of water filling the bathtub. The steam began to rise, gradually enveloping the bathroom in a comforting mist, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility.

I carefully positioned myself, laying across the bath, allowing the warm water to embrace my body. The heat seeped into my muscles, gradually easing away the tension and fatigue that had accumulated. I closed my eyes, letting my mind drift and my senses be enveloped by the serenity of the moment.

The room became hazy, the steam creating a gentle fog that blurred the edges of my surroundings. It was as if the outside world melted away, leaving me in a cocoon of warmth and peace. The soft sound of water cascading and the gentle hum of peacefulness filled the air.

"Cheryl! Are you awake? Todays your big day!" My mom's voice reverberated against the walls of our humble abode.

The sound of my mother's voice calling out my name from downstairs jolted me out of my relaxed state in the bath and as I quickly opened my eyes, the warmth of the water still enveloped me as I realized that today was indeed a significant day.

With a renewed sense of energy, I sat up in the bath, the water rolling down from my body. I took a moment to gather my thoughts and mentally prepare for the day ahead. The excitement of the occasion surged through me, mingling with a touch of nervous anticipation.

"I'm up, Mom!" I called back, my voice echoing through the steam-filled bathroom. Wrapping a towel around myself, I rose from the bath, the droplets of water ran down my skin as I stepped out onto the tiled floor.

I swiftly dried myself off, the sense of urgency growing within me. Today was the day I would finally receive my trainer license, a milestone that marked the beginning of my official journey as a Pokémon trainer. It was a culmination of years of preparation, training, and efforts.

I quickly got dressed and carefully selecting my attire for the big day ahead. I reached for a pair of matching green trainers, their vibrant color perfectly complementing the natural shade of my eyes. As I slipped them on, I could feel a surge of confidence welling up within me.

Next, I grabbed my trusty backpack, a sturdy companion that had accompanied me on countless journeys and adventures. Its shade of green seamlessly blended with the color of my trainers, creating a harmonious ensemble that reflected my personal style.

I slung the backpack over my shoulders, adjusting the straps for a comfortable fit. Its familiar weight provided a sense of familiarity and preparedness, as if it held all the essentials I would need for the day's challenges and beyond.

As I stood before the mirror, taking one final glance at my reflection, I couldn't help but feel a swell of pride. The coordinated outfit, with its matching green accessories, added a touch of flair to my appearance. It was a reflection of my personality, a visual representation of my passion for the Pokémon world and my determination as a trainer.

With a sense of anticipation coursing through me, I made my way downstairs, my trainers softly padding against the stairs. Each step brought me closer to the moment I had been eagerly awaiting—receiving my trainer license and officially beginning my journey.

Filled with a mix of nerves and excitement, I took a deep breath, savoring the moment. Today was the day I would embark on my Pokémon journey, armed with my trusted partner, Seedot, and the unwavering support of my mother. With my coordinated outfit as a symbol of my readiness and enthusiasm, I was prepared to take my first steps into the thrilling world of Pokémon training., thoughts raced through my mind. I knew that this was a pivotal moment, the start of an adventure that would shape my future. The hours spent studying at the Pokémon Academy, the countless training sessions with Seedot, all of it had led to this point.

Right here.

This was the pivotal point of my youth.

With a mixture of excitement and determination coursing through my veins, my heart thumping incessantly within my head, I made my way downstairs to join my mother. The aroma of breakfast wafted through the air, a comforting scent that fueled my anticipation.

As I stepped into the kitchen, my mother's eyes lit up with pride and excitement. It was a special day for both of us, a moment of transition and growth. We exchanged a knowing smile, a silent acknowledgment of the journey that had led us to this point.

As my mother embraced me tightly, her arms enveloping me in a warm, loving hug, I could feel the mix of emotions in the air. Her touch conveyed a sense of both pride and reluctance, a bittersweet realization that this was the moment I had been eagerly awaiting, but also one that meant parting ways, at least for a while.

"M-Mom," I stammered, my voice filled with a blend of affection and determination. I understood her hesitation, her reluctance to let go, as she held onto me a little longer, not wanting to see me venture into the unknown.

But deep down, I knew that this was my calling, my chance to make a difference in the Pokémon world and discover my own path. I gently pulled away from her embrace, holding her hands in mine as I looked into her eyes, grateful for the unwavering support she had given me throughout my journey.

"I promise, Mom," I began, my voice steady but filled with heartfelt sincerity. "I will take care of myself, and I will make you proud. This is what I've trained for, what I've dreamed of. I will face the challenges, learn from the experiences, and grow as both a trainer and an individual."

Tears welled up in her eyes as she nodded, her love and pride evident in her gaze. She kissed my forehead tenderly, the touch of her lips leaving a lingering warmth.

"I know you will, my dear," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "Remember, no matter where you go or what you face, you have my unwavering support and love. You're destined for greatness."

I smiled through my own tears. In that moment, I knew that even though we would be physically apart, the bond between a mother and child could never be severed. Her love and encouragement would be my guiding light, illuminating the path ahead and providing the strength to overcome any obstacle.

With one last embrace, I gently released my mother's hands, knowing it was time to embark on my journey. I carried her love and support in my heart, knowing that no matter how challenging the road ahead may be, I had her blessing and belief in my abilities.

As I stepped away, I turned towards the open door, ready to face the world as a Pokémon trainer. The weight of my mother's love and encouragement lifted my spirits, infusing me with a newfound resolve.

And.

There... Stood Axel Derecha, wearing a smug expression that seemed to perfectly complement his naturally handsome face. My heart sank a little upon seeing him, as I knew his presence was bound to add a dose of annoyance to my already eventful day. But what surprised me more was the fact that he was here, on this important day, standing at my doorstep.

"M-Mom!" I called out, my voice laced with a mix of frustration and confusion. "Why is he here?"

"He's here to look after you, darling," she replied, her voice carrying a sense of reassurance.

I rolled my eyes, unable to fully grasp the reasoning behind my mother's decision. Axel, my childhood friend turned occasional rival, was the last person I wanted by my side on this significant day. While we had shared moments of friendship in the past, our paths had diverged, and our interactions had become tinged with competition and irritation.

Yet, I couldn't deny the flicker of concern in my mother's eyes as she glanced between Axel and me. Perhaps she believed that having him around would provide some form of support or security. Reluctantly, I realized that her intentions were rooted in a desire to ensure my well-being, even if her choice of companion left much to be desired.

Taking a deep breath, I resigned myself to the fact that Axel would be part of this day, whether I liked it or not. Our shared history and the bond we once had demanded a level of civility, if not outright friendship.

"Fine," I sighed, shooting Axel a sideways glance. "Just remember, Axel, today is about me and my journey. No pranks, no unnecessary competition. We can put our differences aside for one day, can't we?"

Axel's smug expression wavered for a moment, replaced by a flicker of understanding. "Of course," he replied, his tone surprisingly sincere. "Today, let's focus on supporting each other, like we used to."

While a part of me remained skeptical, I couldn't help but hope that Axel's presence could be a source of unexpected camaraderie and encouragement. After all, deep down, there was still a connection between us, buried beneath layers of rivalry and annoyance.

As we stood next to each other, my mother's eyes sparkled with a mix of relief and anticipation. It seemed she was hopeful that this unusual partnership could lead to a positive outcome. Walking briskly away from the front door, bidding my mother a farewell, I hoped that my increased pace would deter Axel from accompanying me. However, to my dismay, it seemed to have the opposite effect.

"Hey hey hey, Cheryl! It's been a while, huh?" Axel called out, his voice filled with an air of familiarity that grated on my nerves. He caught up to me effortlessly, matching my pace with an annoying swagger.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, responding with a curt nod. "Yes, Axel, it has been a while," I replied, my tone neutral, hoping to discourage further conversation.

But Axel seemed undeterred by my aloofness. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he continued, "Aren't you curious what Pokémon I have? I've been training a real powerhouse."

His matter-of-fact tone grated on my patience, and I found myself growing increasingly irritated. The last thing I wanted was to engage in a bragging match with him, especially on a day that held such significance for me.

"Not particularly," I replied, trying to keep my voice level. "Today is about receiving my trainer license and beginning my own journey. I'm focused on my goals and my Pokémon."

Axel chuckled, clearly relishing the opportunity to rile me up. "Always so serious, Cheryl," he remarked, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Well, maybe one day you'll be curious enough to challenge me. Until then, I'll keep my Pokémon a mystery. Ha!"

I suppressed a sigh of frustration, realizing that Axel's presence would likely continue to be a source of annoyance. However, I also recognized that our competitive banter had a long history, one that was difficult to shake off entirely.

With a sigh, I turned to face him, my eyes meeting his with a mix of annoyance and resignation. "Fine, Axel," I said, my voice tinged with reluctant curiosity. "Tell me about the Pokémon you've been training. But remember, this doesn't mean we're suddenly best friends again."

Axel's smug expression widened into a satisfied grin. "Oh, don't worry, Cheryl. We'll always have our friendly rivalry," he replied, his tone filled with playful confidence. I watched as Axel casually tossed a Poké Ball into the air, releasing a burst of light that materialized into the form of an Elekid. The Electric-type Pokémon stood before us, crackling with energy and exuding an air of playfulness.

I couldn't help but feel a mixture of surprise and intrigue. Elekid was a Pokémon I had always found fascinating, with its unique design and powerful electric abilities. Its presence added an unexpected twist to our encounter, momentarily capturing my attention.

Axel grinned, clearly pleased with his choice. "This is Elekid," he introduced, his voice filled with a touch of pride. "I've been training him diligently, focusing on his speed and electric attacks. Elekid is an energetic and mischievous companion, always ready for a challenge."

I scanned Elekid with my Pokédex, noting the sparks of electricity dancing around its body. Despite my reservations about Axel's presence, I couldn't deny the undeniable appeal of his Pokémon's vibrant energy.

"Elekid, huh?" I remarked, unable to hide a hint of admiration. "It seems like a formidable partner. I'm sure it'll give me a run for my money if we ever end up battling."

Axel's eyes lit up with excitement, and he nodded eagerly. "Oh, you bet! I can't wait for the day when our Pokémon clash in battle, Cheryl. It'll be a showdown to remember."

While I remained cautious about Axel's intentions and the competitive nature of our relationship, there was an undeniable thrill in the air. The presence of Elekid added a new layer of complexity to our interaction, sparking a renewed sense of rivalry and anticipation.

As we continued to walk towards the Trainer License Centre, I couldn't help but feel a flicker of excitement building within me. The prospect of facing Axel in a future battle, with our respective Pokémon giving their all, was both daunting and exhilarating. It would be a test of our skills, a chance to prove ourselves and further our own growth as trainers.

With Elekid crackling with energy beside Axel, I couldn't help but wonder about the possibilities that lay ahead. Our shared history, mixed with a healthy dose of competition, would undoubtedly shape the course of our journeys. And perhaps, in the midst of our friendly rivalry, we would discover unexpected bonds and learn valuable lessons along the way.
